Custom notification sound for Google Nest Cam (battery) Nest Doorbell

I have a Google Cam in/out (battery), Google Floodlight Cam, and Nest Doorbell Cam.  All of these were able to notify me with a custom notification sound (custom sound I chose) when there was an event (motion, etc).  I just switched from S20 to S25 and I cannot find where the setting is to choose a custom sound for the camera notification.  All of the options I've read lead me no where.

My Nest app only shows one of my thermostats and my Protect smoke detectors.  That's how it was on my old  phone as well in that the cameras went through the Home app.  I also have a Nest Aware subscription.

If the camera notification isn't something customizable (I had a barking dog sound on prior phone), then it is useless in getting my attention.  Like most people, I get way too many notifications which end up being white noise during the day rather than an actual alert.  I need a real alert notification when there is something on my camera 24 hours a day.  It worked well in the past, especially during the night.

Thanks for any help in finding this setting again.

I suspect that must be an Android phone option, NOT a Google Nest option. We've been Google Nest customers since 2019--using iPhones--and we've never had an option for custom sounds for camera notifications.

This is a Samsung notification settings not Google Home.

From your phone's screen. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the System settings.

Follow this -

Press COG WHEEL (Top Right)

Scroll to:

Notifications >

"App Notifications">

Scroll/Search "HOME" -

Tap "Notification Categories".

This opens a list where you can tap each category to set individual tones.

Eg Camera detections, Doorbell presses, etc.

Select the category you wish to modify eg

Tap "Doorbell Press Notifications >

Tap "Sound" ( Android pop up menu will appear displaying

"SecSoundPicker" and any apps you have installed for using sounds. I personally use "Zedge App" (available free on Google Play) for my custom sounds.

The default Android Sound Picker App will only allow you to use default Android/Samsung sounds you have on your device. With Zedge, you can search and download specific sounds/tunes from their library.

**Note - to use any custom sound for notifications, they must be downloaded and saved/remain on your device.

Once you have a custom Sound you want to use downloaded, Repeat the above and select that custom Sound from your sounds menu and

tap back

This has now saved (custom sound) to your specified notification.

Apologies if this is confusing. Once you have worked out to do it first time. You can also go ahead and use this same process for ANY custom Sound you want for ANY notification on your device.

If you get stuck I will reply further.

Hi @Wisco1

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that you were having some questions about customizing your notifications. I know this can be a little confusing, but let me assist you with that!

Currently, we don’t have the option to customize notifications within the Google Home app or for individual devices. However, if you are an Android user, you can customize notifications for each app, which is the closest available option.

The idea to customize notifications within the Google Home app is excellent! We always consider feedback from our customers. Please click here to be redirected to our feedback form, where you can share your thoughts and ideas!

Let me know if this is helpful for you! Or if you have any further questions or inquiries, I will be more than glad to assist you!

Best Regards,

Debora
