Ditto: Nest Doorbell Pushing Too Many (Wrong) Notifications

Like a post by a similar title from earlier this month that was closed with no solution, I am also getting incorrect notifications. I am a subscriber. I have set up a zone on my doorbell camera and turned off all notifications outside the zone. Yet clearly I get notifications for vehicles and the video obviously says “outside of zones.” I would love to try the suggestion to reboot the doorbell, but cutting power switches it to battery, and I don’t know if that will fix the issue anyway.

This problem only started recently, so maybe there was a regression in a recently software release. Please help.

@AB10

Judging from your comments, I'm guessing you have the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery). The symptoms you describe are strange. We have the Google Nest Camera (Battery) and do NOT see such behavior. Below is a link to how to do a "Restart" on the battery doorbell; you use the reset pin hole on the back of the camera but do not press it for as long as a Factory Reset.

Correct, battery and hard wired to my doorbell transformer. Thanks for the tip about restarting it. Going to try now.

Btw, do you have iPhone and Android phones using google home with independent and different notification settings?

@AB10

We have 2 iPhones with independent and different notification settings,  and have 2 of the newer camera that work only in the Google Home app, as well as older Google Nest cameras and doorbells.

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing up the concern you're experiencing, I would love to look into this further for you. The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to restart your device. This process should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally.

Best regards,
Brad

Hello. I think I figure out what’s happening. I have a scarecrow set up in my front yard for Halloween and when a car drives by (even outside of the zone where it shouldn’t alert), I get an alert for people motion in the zone. I’ll be taking my scarecrow down soon and will update again after that.

@AB10

Please let us know if taking down your scarecrow changes anything for you. In the meantime, if you don't already, which you might, try setting up or changing your Activity Zone settings. We'll continue to monitor this thread for activity and follow-up questions and concerns.

Best regards,

Brad
