I want to add one or two security cameras, but don’t want to get tied in to subscription services in order to be able to access video history. With the recent shutdown of the Google home security system, I am finding it difficult to isolate CURRENT information relating to (for example) the “Nest Cam (battery)” device, and its usage via the Google Home app (iOS).
First off - is it still actually compatible? If so…
can I view the video feed through the Home App (live and history)
does it require some form of subscription to maintain video history
how long is video history available and can it be downloaded - e.g. for provision to police/insurance, etc
can it send alerts to my iPad/iPhone when motion is detected
I think I have these questions answered, but am just not sure if the answers I have are still accurate today (February 2025), or apply to past configurations which are no longer available or applicable.
Many thanks

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Community Forum. I understand you want to know if the Google Nest Cameras require a subscription for video storage and history. No worries, I’m here to share more information with you.
Nest Aware enhances your home security by providing more video history and smarter alerts for your Nest cameras, speakers, and displays. With a subscription, you'll receive features like familiar face detection and sound alerts, helping you stay informed about what's happening at home.
