Doorbell Notifications/History not working.

I've had nothing but issues with my Google Nest Doorbell.

Initially, I misunderstood that my "zone" was actually where I didn't want notifications, obviously my fault, however unless I turn on notifications for all areas then I don't seem to get notified of any events whatsoever even after fixing the zonal issue. I live on a busy street so doing this results in easily over 100 push notifications per day, which is clearly annoying and completely hammers battery life.

So I have to live without push notifications, an issue and an annoyance in and of itself, however now the camera is only saving activity that took place just an hour previous with no previous days being saved or captured. This means I can't even manually check if anyone had called when I've been at work. I don't even get a push notification on my phone when someone rings the bell!

Surely to god this can't be a Google product?! All of the other Google home devices I have are incredibly intuitive and work fantastically. This doorbell however is a MASSIVE let down. Does anyone have any ideas before I switch to Ring?

Hi @DM91!

Thanks for bringing your concern to our attention and posting it in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with the activity zones and the notifications of your Google Nest Doorbell.

I understand that you're getting a lot of notifications, and this may be affecting your device's battery life. No worries about it, let me help you with that.

Please follow the next steps:

  • Open the Google Home app. Go to Devices.
  • Select the camera you want to change the notification settings for.
  • At the upper right corner, tap the three dots > Go to Settings. Select Events > Seen events > Unmark animals, vehicles, and motions.

If you haven't created any zones:

  • Go to Devices.
  • Select the camera you want to change the notification settings for.
  • At the upper right corner, tap the three dots > Go to Settings. Notifications and Unmark animals, vehicles, packages, and motions.

In the meantime, you may find this article useful: Camera and doorbell alerts

Let me know how this goes, and we'll find a resolution together.

Regards,

Hi Catheryn,

Thank you for your support. Unfortunately I've tried all this. I've changed what notifications I get but it was the case that unless I had notifications active for absolutely everything then I wouldn't get ANY notifications at all, not even for a doorbell press. Now I've moved the zone and have everything turned on notifications wise and for some strange reason I'm back to getting no notifications at all and even worse the camera isn't saving event history for any period of time longer than an hour or so!

Hello @DM91!

Thanks for your reply and the additional information.

I'm really sorry to hear those steps didn't work, let's try the next:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home App
    • When installing it back, remember to allow the permissions to get the notifications
  • Verify if the issue is resolved, if not you may try to reboot your Google Nest Doorbell.

Let me know how this goes.

Thanks,

Catheryn
