Doorbell and nest battery

Maney

This is our second doorbell previous one was dropped so we had to replaced it. I know how to set up etc. This one does not announce on our nest when someone pressed the door bell nor does it alert me through notifications on the home app on my phone. I have tried various troubleshooting including re-boot, restart my phone, un/reinstall home app, un/reinstall door bell, set up all notifications, set door bell as digital theme (this is how our old one worked to alert us and show on our home nest screen). Re charged battery on doorbell. Updated all notifications/annoncements on my phone. I really dont know what else to do, feel like its a faulty door bell. Cant return it and very expensive to replace.

Hi @Maney,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear you're not getting notifications on your Nest Doorbell Battery. Help's here!

I'd also like to ask a few questions:

  • Is the Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode turned off or on?
  • Did you try to use a different mobile device?
  • Have you created an Activity Zone?
  • How far is your Wi-Fi router from the Nest Doorbell?

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Melany

Hello Melany,

No do not disturb or airplane mode is not on.

Yes we have it set up on another mobile device, the notifications on the app work. But does not alert on google nest even though it is set to digital doorbell theme.

Yes created an activity zone as this a trouble shoot idea, but it did not work.

Router is right next to doorbell and nest as well, we have 2 wifi routers.

I really think the doorbell itself is faulty but I can not return it  nor can I buy another due to cost. Thinking I will just throw it out and never buy this product again.

Do I need to buy nestaware sotfware for battery doorbell notifications to work? I did not need it on my previous one, but baffled why this one is not working.

Hi Maney,

Thanks for providing this useful information! Let's work together to resolve this.

First, let me answer your question about needing Nest Aware to get notifications. Although Nest Aware offers more premium options like familiar faces, you don't need a Nest Aware subscription to receive notifications like person, animal, vehicle, or package detection. These features are included for free with the Nest Doorbell (battery).

Now that I've clarified this, let's try some troubleshooting steps. First, we'll make sure that "Critical alerts" is enabled. Turning on this option and restarting your phone may resolve this issue. Please follow the next steps:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Settings
  • Tap Notifications
  • Select General Notifications.
  • Turn on Critical alerts.
  • Check for a banner at the top of the screen.
  • If the banner says, "Critical alert notifications are turned off in this device's settings," tap Turn on Critical Alerts.

To help me investigate this further, can you please help me by providing the following information?

  • What are your WiFi upload and download speeds?
  • Double-check that you're using the right account in the Google Home app.
  • Can the device record videos without any difficulties?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hey Nery,

Thank you for your message.

Critical alerts was already on, so I turned it off then on and re started my phone no luck there.

I have unlimited broadband so not sure speed etc.

Yes device records videos and stores it no problems.

Cheers

Hi there!

I understand how frustrating it must be to have issues with your Nest doorbell, especially after having to replace it. It's disappointing that it's not working as expected. We'll do our best to help you resolve this problem.

Let's try a few more troubleshooting steps together. I'm confident we can get it working again.

  • Check for "Home Away"
    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap on the device icon for your Nest Cam Battery.
    • Look for the Home/Away status indicator.
  • Once you've found it, if the Home Away is turned on, please turn it off.
  • Test with a Different Device.
    • If possible, try linking your doorbell to a different device. This will help isolate whether the issue is with the doorbell itself or with your phone.
  • Factory reset (Last Resort)
    • If that doesn't work we recommend you to perform a factory reset on your Nest Doorbell Battery. Remember, this will erase all configurations you could have, make sure you save any recorded video you would like to save.

Hope this helps!

Brandon.
