Doorbell and outdoor camera sound alerts

Keithegan
Community Member

I have nest battery doorbell and 2 outdoor cameras and signed up for nest aware thinking I would get sound alerts.  It appears sound alerts are only available in the USA.   Can someone explain why?  Struggling to see why I would pay for nest aware when the only thing I get is face detection and even then I get alerts when I walk around my house and the camera sees me.  Would be much more useful to have alerts by exception.   Also I can't automate simple things like if the camera sees someone at night the lights come on.  I can if they press the doorbell but not if they are seen

Hi Keithegan,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, where are you located? Is the microphone of your Nest Camera and Nest Doorbell turned on? Do you have the Nest Camera with floodlights? Looking forward to your response.

Best,
Emerson

Hi, I don't have the camera with floodlights.   I have the battery powered doorbell and 2 outdoor cameras.  I can listen to people and talk to them from all devices but have no option to setup alerts for sounds.  I'm located in Ireland.

Hello Keithegan,

We appreciate you getting back to us and for sharing this information. In case you're referring to the alerts that you may hear from your smart speaker when someone presses your Nest Doorbell, you need to turn on the Visitor announcements from your Google Home app.

Give these steps a try:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile More More menu Settings .
  4. Select Notifications.

Hit this link for more information and let us know your update here.

Best,
Emerson

Hi, I was waiting because I bought a nest camera wired 2nd generation  and wanted to see if that had other options.  The only option I have is 'Seen' people animals etc.  There is no option for sound.  I also have nest aware subscription.

Hi Keithegan,

Thanks for the update. Could you please take a screenshot of what you see on that page? Also, in what state are you located?

Regards,

Jenelyn

I don't know how to add a screenshot to the chat.  I think the problem is that I'm located in Ireland and not USA

Hey Keithegan,

Thanks for the photo. Sound detection is one of the new features available with Nest Aware (2nd gen) in the US. But to check if it's available in the UK, could you please try to follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Go to Settings and then Nest Aware and then Sound detection.
  3. Under the Sounds section, check the box next to:
    • Smoke alarms
    • Carbon monoxide alarms
    • Glass breaking

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Jenelyn

The only option in the nest aware subscription is familiar face detection.  I have no option for sound.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop. Unfortunately, this feature is only available in the US, but we're always looking for ways to improve and bring more features to different regions. You can check out this link to file a feedback. If you still have questions or concerns, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Best,
