Doorbell camera not recording events

Jdauria
Community Member

I have the entire Google ecosystem for my house. Noticed for awhile that my doorbell (battery) does not record events UNLESS the ring button is selected.

I have the best aware subscription.

My outdoor camera works about 85% of the time and I am constantly being notified of movement throughout the day.

Why doesn’t the doorbell camera pick up on motion and notify me? I had someone standing at my door at 0230 last night…my outdoor camera thankfully picked up most of the video and image of the individual. But if my door camera worked properly I would have a better view of this person.

I am tempted to just buy another outdoor camera and put it right at my door so I don’t miss events like the one above

Hi @Jdauria,

Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest doorbell isn't recording events. Help's here!

To better assist you, I'd like to ask a couple of questions:

  • What is the model of your mobile device?
  • Are you using the Nest app or the Google Home app?
  • Did you receive any notifications in the past?
  • Were there any changes to the Wi-Fi network?
  • Do you use email or push notifications?
  • Are there other family members who can access the camera? Do they receive any notifications?
  • Has the camera been moved recently?
  • Are there any Activity Zones set up for the camera?

For now, I'd suggest the following:

Check if the notifications are enabled depending on the app. You can refer to the next article: Nest notifications not working.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi @Jdauria,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I truly appreciate the information you’ve provided. Let’s try to fix this!

In this situation, I recommend the following steps:

  • Delete the Google Home app.
  • Restarting your mobile device.
  • Reinstall the Google Home app.
  • Ensure that your device does not have the 'Don't disturb' feature enabled.
  • If you have Activity Zones, make sure the zones do not overlap. If they do, delete them and recreate them with no overlap. You can check out the next article for more information: Set up and use Activity Zones.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
