Doorbell press - Incredibly delayed google home annoucement.

Awff
Community Member

When the doorbell is pressed, there is a very significant delay when it is announced on all my Google home speakers.

When the button is pressed, it could be anywhere from 5 seconds to a minute when my speakers would announce, "Someone (or name) is at the front door". This is incredibly impractical as the person would have been gone by then, or waited too long. Especially delivery services.

The wifi signal strength is strong and connectivity is fast to the doorbell. I belive this is an issue with the whole nest ecosystem talking to each other. Please address as this nearly defeats the purpose of a simple doorbell...

Mine wouldn't send any notifications at all ever and after a week of trying and "so called" google support help i returned it and swapped it for a camera. The camera doesn't work either.. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but in my experience no google camera products work as advertised. They're simply not fit for purpose.

Same problem here. It's only started happening recently for me, so I'm guessing it's related to an update to Google Home, or the doorbell firmware, and hopefully they'll fix it soon. Used to be pretty much instant for me, but now it's 10-30 seconds, including the notification reaching my phone.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out — let's see what's going on. A few questions: what Nest doorbell are we working on?  Is the issue happening with push notifications or both email and push? Do you all receive push notifications on multiple devices? Also, are your mobile devices connected to a network?

Could you all try to connect the mobile device to another Wi-Fi or cellular network? Signing in to your account on another mobile device and triggering a notification to test might also help isolate this.

Regards,

Juni

Doorbell for me is a Nest doorbell (battery).

Let me explain the issue I'm having once again, in full.

The bell has worked great until recently.  Somebody steps onto our path and walks towards the house and instantly our phones chime to say person seen.  Somebody presses the doorbell and within a couple of seconds our phones (Pixel 7 Pro) and Google Home Mini speakers chime, saying "someone is at the front door", or reporting their name.

However, recently it's all changed.  A couple of weeks ago somebody came to the door and rang the bell.  The speakers in the house (so nothing to do with cellular data) AND my phone (I was in the house too, and connected to wifi) only chimed after about 15-20 seconds, by which time the person had gone.  I went to the door and had to call to them so they would come back.

Ah, you say - it's your wifi.  My wifi speed is 70Mbps down, and 20Mbps up.  I've restarted the router since this problem started and it's made no difference, so it's not the router.  As an experiment I've also tried disabling wifi on my phone and the notifications are just as slow.  For info, it's also the same on my wife's phone, so it's not an issue with my phone.

The common denominator here is the doorbell, and the stuff that runs it.  Nothing has changed in the house that could slow it down - no new devices, no configuration changes - and as I said, this also affects smart speakers in the house so isn't an issue with a rogue app on our phones.

I've also recharged the doorbell, and restarted it (pin in the hole in the back for 5 seconds until the white light comes on).  Haven't fully reset it as I don't want to lose all the familiar faces which are saved onto it.

In case it helps...

Doorbell firmware is gq-user 1.65 OPENMASTER 326080 release-keys stable-channel stable-channel

It is the Nest battery  doorbell. All the issues outlined by other posters here are exactly what I have been facing. The phone notifications are somewhat quick, but I don’t always have my phone on me around the house and rely on the multiple Google nests speakers to tell me when the button is pressed. I’ve tested it myself and when I press the button it takes more than 10 seconds for for nest speakers to announce someone is at the door. The firmware is always up to date. My internet speed and signal aren’ strength to the doorbell and all speakers are strong

Having the same issue as above. Best battery. Notifications are anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute after the button pressed. Live feed is accurate so it’s not Wi-Fi related. Only started going slow about a month ago and is gradually getting slower. Had door bell 6 months. Currently not fit for purpose and will be looking for a refund on this basis unless there is a clear fix for this issue.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the additional detail you all shared. Could you please try to connect your Nest doorbell (battery) to another network and observe if it will make a difference?

I look forward to your response.

Best,

Juni

We've only one broadband connection to the house so can't change the network unless I physically move the doorbell to a different property.

Hi Juni,

Like most, I only have a single network to connect to. We have a mesh network and the doorbell has priority. Loading live footage is immediate without delays. But the doorbell press takes a very long time to announce.

Not possible - only got one network here.

Also, please bear in mind that multiple people have this issue, so it's not a problem with one person's network.
