I've had the doorbell for a few years and this just started a few days ago.

Hi @jpd!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been experiencing with your Nest doorbell. I understand that you just started to receive your false notifications from your doorbell at night. Keep in mind that Nest cameras use software to look for changes in color and lighting to create the notifications. There are a few things that can trigger unwanted alerts or false positives; here are common triggers, to name a few:

  • Changes in the light level.
  • Shadow moving across the frame. For example, if a cloud moves in front of the sun.
  • Trees or bushes swaying near important areas.
  • Headlights or flashing entering the field of view.

Then I will suggest you check in the videos for any of those things, and then you can create activity zones to avoid the camera detecting that part of the field of view that is creating the false notifications.

Here I send you an article that can help you: Set up and use Activity Zones

If you have any other questions, you can keep posting.

Regards,

Daniel.

Thanks.  I did look for any of those things before posting and none existed.  Also the fact it didn't do it for nearly 2 years would make those changes highly unlikely to create the notices in the extreme volume we are experiencing - 20 plus per night.

Hi @jpd!

Thanks for your reply.
I can see that you already checked the video history for any of those triggers that I sent you before but you were not able to find any like that.

In order to keep helping you I need some extra information. Here are some questions for you:

  • What is the exact model of your Nest doorbell?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
  • You control the doorbell through the Nest app or the Google Home app?

In the meantime, I will suggest you to create the activity zones that I talked about before and also you can try to perform a restart on your Nest Doorbell.

Please check the following article: Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.
