Doorbell stopped working, you have to push it a couple times to make it chime .

The camera works if I access it, but someone can walk up to the door and push the doorbell and nothing!! If they push a couple times then it rings. It has been working fine for years now it just started doing this????

@Chetp02

You say you've had your doorbell for years, so do you actually have a Google Nest Hello Doorbell, rather than the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell indicated in your post? If so, perhaps the internal battery in your Nest Hello is failing. Does your doorbell also go offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed?

The purpose of the internal battery is to provide continuous power to the doorbell during the instant when the doorbell button is pressed and power is diverted to ring the internal doorbell chime.  When it fails, the internal chime does not ring, notifications are not sent, and the camera goes offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed.

The internal battery has now failed on all 3 of our Nest Hellos. Google Nest's stance is that they "cannot" replace doorbells older than the 1-year warranty.

Like many other Google Nest customers, we have turned off the "Indoor chime" option. Our indoor doorbell chime no longer rings, but our doorbells no longer go offline. We instead rely on "Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451)on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini.

See this very long thread (1,000+ replies) on the subject:

Hello folks,

@Chetp02, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. You may try turning off and on your push notification settings as well as the people and motion categories under notification. Restart your nest Doorbell and Wi-Fi router to refresh their connections to the internet.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson
