Doorbell unable to setup

wil1234

Hi,

During setup, I'm unable to connect to a joining device. I'd appreciate any tips. I have several devices already connected to the google home app. To troubleshoot, I've tried: ensuring wifi on phone is same as on main device; factory reset on doorbell; trying multiple phones to setup the device; setting up on a new house profile (not connected to all the other devices); ensuring it is disconnected/not showing as app on both google home and google nest.

I had it set up successfully a month ago, after several hours of trying to connect and getting that same error. I have no idea how I succeeded. It went offline about an hour after setup, however. I began trying to reset it again and now here I am with an expensive paper weight.

Thank you for any insights you can give me!

If anyone at google reads these, here are a few other comments worth your time:

1) Can I not just set devices up from my google tablet display? That seems like a natural place to put that function as the central hub, but I couldn't find it there.

2) Why are Google Home and Google Nest separate apps and not integrated? Several times they point me back to the other app to do some feature.

3) Other google products seem just as fickle to setup, including lightbulbs, outlets, and speakers.

I am having the exact same issue here. There is no option to allow for direct setup with the device, it just automatically tries to connect to a joining device and fails every time.

It doesn't bode well that no one has ever got back to you, either.

Google - please help?

Hi Edmund,

Thank you for your reply, it's much appreciated.

And I'm happy to say that a factory reset did resolve this issue, and we now have a functioinal doorbell, once again.

Many thanks again,

JP

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Community.

To reconnect your Nest doorbell, it needs to be factory reset. Once you factory reset it, the led light on the front should be pulsing, which means it's in pairing mode, but if the light is green or white, that means the factory reset didn't complete successfully. Here is a link on how to factory reset the Nest doorbell.

@wil1234, the 2nd Generation Nest Doorbell, wired or battery, can only be set up in the Google Home app. Our team is working hard to deliver the best experience for our users — we'll take this as feedback. Check out this link on how to file feedback.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks,

EdmondB
