So, we really like our Nest Doorbell, especially as the home office is at the bottom of the garden. Quick question though.......can the doorbell part work on wifi alone? If not, I wonder if this should be a future feature request?
We live in a rural location. We have excellent wifi though a mesh and super fast broadband through Virgin. Unfortunately, because we are rural, if our Internet has a problem, it can be a few days before its fixed. Obviously it's only connection to the outside world we lose and the wifi mesh continues to go strong.
I understand why I would lose connectivity to the doorbell if I was trying to connect over mobile data, but I lose connection even when home on the wifi. Is there a way for the doorbell to at least ring over wifi without Internet connectivity? It seems a bit of a flaw that I can't hear someone at the door just because I don't have Internet connectivity.

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your Feature Request with us. Our cameras and doorbells do not have a data plan set up on them, so if they do not have an active Wi-Fi connection, they will generally not work for you. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and appreciate your feedback. You can send it at any time using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps found here. This thread will remain open for 24 hours for any follow-up questions or concerns.
Best regards,
Brad

Thanks for getting back to me, Brad, but you misunderstood me slightly. I don't need the doorbell to have a data plan.

I am afraid that these cameras do not have an internal Wi-Fi or a data plan. They will only function fully when connected to a strong, Wi-Fi internet connection. They will not record events if they are offline. I hope that clarification helps.
Best regards,
Brad
