Since having my wired Generation III Google Nest doorbell installed by a Google Nest recommended technician, the indoor chime has irregularly failed. I know very little about electronics, but have previously been able to resolve the problem by either conducting a factory reset (twice), or reinstalling the doorbell on the Google Home App.
Since it's the inside electronic chime that fails, I'm not entirely sure how long my fixes last after testing (hours, days or weeks). The camera, video, microphone, and outdoor chime all work well, and are a huge improvement on the Generation I and II doorbells, but it's not good enough for such an expensive appliance.
Suggestions please. Thank you.

Hi @MyBad,
Thanks for your responses and for the additional information you've shared. I understand that after reinstalling your Nest Doorbell on Saturday, the indoor chime worked on Sunday but stopped again by Monday, despite the mild weather in Yorkshire. I appreciate the effort you’ve put into this, as well as the time and cost spent working with your local technician.
Since this issue is intermittent and your technician is unsure of the cause, exploring a Google Home speaker as an alternative to act as a chime is a great option. This feature is compatible with various smart speakers and displays, so if the Nest Mini is currently out of stock, any other Google Nest Speaker or Display will also work to announce visitors. You can find the steps to set this up in the following articles: How visitor announcements work and Get doorbell visitor announcements on a speaker or display.
In the meantime, since the chime worked briefly after the reinstall, it might be worth checking the "Indoor chime" toggle in the Google Home app settings one more time to ensure it didn't stay disabled after your last test.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Jonathan

Hi @MyBad,
Thanks for posting in the community. I understand that your indoor chime has been behaving irregularly since the installation, especially after having a technician set up your Nest Doorbell (3rd gen, wired) and seeing that a factory reset was only a temporary fix. I know how concerning this must be since the reset only fixes the issue for a while, and other features work well. I appreciate the detailed information shared so far and your efforts in troubleshooting. Don't worry, I'd be more than glad to assist you with that. To help with that, I have a few questions for you:
Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Thanks for you timely response Jonathan.
The doorbell has definitely not been exposed to extreme temperatures in Yorkshire, although I will now have to pay another Google Nest technician to explore your suggestions 😞

I'd also add that I reinstalled the doorbell on the Google Home App on Saturday, the indoor chime worked when tested on Sunday, but is not working today, Monday. During that time, temperatures were approximately 8-17℃, low winds, and no rain.

I’ve spoken to my local Google Nest Technician, who I rate very highly. He has troubleshooted the issue in the past, and is unsure why the indoor chime should work intermittently.
He suggested that a less expensive solution that him requiring the doorbell once more, would be to explore something like a mini Google Nest speaker, which I believe is currently out of stock.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Thanks again Jonathan. Needing to buy yet another Google product, having already spent so much money trying, is slightly disappointing.
Nevertheless, I appreciate the need for a timely solution. I have a Generation III doorbell and need the smallest and most effective speaker solution.
When is the new Mini speaker released in the UK?
Thank you

Hi @MyBad,
Thanks for your update. I know that you've spent so much money on your Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen) and that needing to buy another Google Nest Speaker may be the expected response to keep your device working as it should. I definitely appreciate the effort you've put into this setup so far.
Regarding your question about the speakers, while I don't have a specific release date to share for any new speaker models in the UK, the current Nest Mini remains the most compact option available for a dedicated chime. Since you are looking for the smallest and most effective solution, you might also consider third-party speakers that are Matter-enabled or Google Assistant-compatible to ensure you get everything working to your liking.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you again for taking the time to respond. My new Google Mini Speaker has arrived, which the Google technician advised was less expensive than calling him out again 🫣
I've now gone as far as I can afford with Google Nest. If the speaker doesn't resolve the indoor chime problem, I shall revert to a standard doorbell.
