Giving Tenant A Nest Doorbell

SadiaS
Community Member

Hi,

I have a 2 family house and I am installing a Nest wired doorbell for my tenant (I have my own Nest doorbell on another floor). I want to control the account but, I don't want to see or control their bell. What is the best way to set up the bell and be able to transfer when they move one day?

1. Should I make an email account up for the bell and give them the information?

2. Should I make an email account, add it to my Google home and share access with them?

3. Let them manage with their own email and if they forget to remove it, do a factory reset?

Any suggestions for Landlords is appreciated.

Hi SadiaS

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that you want to install a Nest wired doorbell for your tenant but you don't want to control or see the doorbell.

We recommend to you two different ways below:

  1. Create a new account and attach the doorbell then share the account to your tenant. They will control the doorbell and see it.
  2. Attach the doorbell in your account and then share them access to the doorbell as the family member.
    1. You can check at this article: Share a home & devices in the Google Home app

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Thanks Russell! I was thinking about option 1 and thought it would be cleaner. I'm having it installed next week. I'll let you know how it went.

Thanks again!
