Google Home Assistant Reports Floodlight Offline, But Nest Camera Online

RaphaelF1

I am experiencing an issue with my Google Nest Camera with Floodlight, where the Google Home Assistant fails to control the floodlight, despite it being functional through the Google Home app. The issue persists even after multiple troubleshooting steps.

Issue Summary:

  • My Nest Camera is online and working properly (streaming video and responding through the app).
  • The floodlight can be controlled manually via the Google Home app, proving that it is connected and functional.
  • However, when I ask Google Assistant to turn the floodlight on or off, it responds that the device is offline.
  • The Wi-Fi connection is stable—the camera works flawlessly, and there are no connectivity issues.
  • I have removed and reinstalled both the camera and the floodlight, but the issue persists.
  • The breaker is not the problem, as the floodlight turns on and off manually in the app.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:

  1. Device Reinstallation – Removed and re-added the camera and floodlight in the Google Home app.
  2. Device Name Check – Verified that the floodlight and camera have unique, distinct names.
  3. Google Assistant Sync – Attempted “Hey Google, sync my devices,” but it did not resolve the issue.
  4. Google Assistant Text Command – Tried controlling the floodlight via text in the Assistant app, but the same issue occurred.
  5. Firmware Update Check – Ensured that both the camera and floodlight are updated.
  6. Wi-Fi & Connectivity Check – Verified that the internet connection is stable.

Request for Resolution:

I kindly request your support in resolving this issue, as it appears to be a software or integration problem between Google Assistant and the floodlight feature of my Nest Camera. Please provide guidance on further troubleshooting steps or confirm if this is a known issue requiring a firmware update or fix on Google's end.

Hi @RaphaelF1,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I’m sorry to hear that you're having difficulty controlling your Nest Cam floodlights with Google Assistant. I also appreciate you confirming the steps you've taken to get this situation resolved. I’ll be more than glad to help you.

While we have support for Nest Cams in the Google Assistant, the floodlights are only triggered by motion, live viewing, or camera events. For more information, you can take a look at the following article: Change floodlight settings.

We will also appreciate you sharing your feedback to continue improving our products and meeting your needs.

Best regards,

Derick.

I don't think you read my complaint. When I ask Google Assistant to control the light, it says it's Offline, but I can turn it on and off using the app. This has not been an issue since a couple of weeks ago.
