Google Nest Doorbell 2nd gen and Mechanical Chime

Just moved into my new home, old owner had some offbrand doorbell camera wired directly to the transformer(16v-10va) in the basement. There is a mechanical chime although it was disconnected for some reason. I was able to install and get working the Google Nest Doorbell just fine, but no chime just a notification on my iOS device.

Tried connecting the mechanical chime to the transformer along with the wire that's connected to the Google Nest doorbell but the chime just makes a buzzing sound and it barely rings. I have connected the chime connector puck but it gets really warm. Too warm so I just disconnected the chime because I didn't want to damage it

Is my transformer powerful enough? It's 16v-10va, and it's connected directly to the circuit breaker in the basement. Or do I need to purchase a new chime and transformer. I'm not comfortable messing with the circuit breaker, I would then call an electrician.

Any help is appreciated!

These are the transformer requirements and wiring diagrams for the new Google Nest Doorbell (wired). A buzzing sound with the Nest doorbell usually means a wiring problem, but sometimes there are issues with old transformers. Also, maybe there is an issue with the wiring on your mechanical chime or a mechanical problem with the chime, if it been disconnected.

Wow thanks so much this worked. The diagram made it clear as day on how to wire the doorbell and chime to the transformer. Now I don’t have to spend money with an electrician. Google may need to include these instructions with the doorbell because the video that plays skips over this very important detail. Or maybe I had a special case but it’s still good to have as a double check.

Thanks again!
