Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) Not Charging while Wired

YardleyFFL

After talking to customer service about my new Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) losing it's charge completely despite being wired into the doorbell wiring, I'm not on my replacement Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) that they sent me, and it's draining the same exact way as the first doorbell.  I have read the forums on the cold weather effect on the battery and charging capability, but my question is, it's 66 degrees in New Jersey today, why is my battery still not charging?  I've done all the restarts and resets that have been required for this "smart" device.  I had the doorbell installed through Google's installation services and I'm still dealing with this headache.  The transformer is rated 16V, 10VA, 60Hz.  I know the installer checked the wires from the outside.  I would think he would inform me if the transformer wasn't powerful enough.  What am I missing here?  I'm tired of unscrewing the wires from the doorbell and charging this thing inside.  What is the solution?  If I upgrade the transformer, will it blow out my existing doorbell chime which is original to the house (1956ish)?

Yipes!

At 16V, 10VA, 60Hz, it looks like your transformer meets Google Nest's requirements: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132?hl=en.

If you went through Google's installation services and are on your second Google Nest Doorbell (Battery), maybe Google Nest has even more design issues (or defects) with battery charging than just cold weather.

Last night on the cold weather thread Google Nest disclosed the following (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Cold-weather-concerns-with-Nest-Doorbel...😞

"Operating and charging temperature specs for Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Doorbell (battery): Charging temperature range (ambient air temperature): 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C). The battery will not charge when the ambient air temperature is outside of this range."

Maybe--given your situation--there are other serious issues as well.

Same issue.  Wired doorbell but won’t stay charged.  Baffling because it’s wired.  Shouldn’t need battery at all.

@kostdonna62

If you read the above posts, you'll find that the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) ALWAYS runs off of its battery, even when it is wired.

Hi folks,

We understand and we’re really sorry for the trouble. We’d like to get more details.

A few questions — what is the color of the LED lights on the Nest Doorbell? Did you receive any notifications from the Google Home app? What troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Regards,

Steve

All I can say is that this doorbell is garbage. After going round and round with customer service because I had an issue with my new subsctiption, I finally got that settled after much aggravation. I had to redo the installation and I thought that would be the end of it. So I figured I might as well recharge it. It was at 45%. After 12 hours it was only at 82%. Since I already did the reinstallation, I knew that was not the problem. Really sorry I purchased this item. Do not recommend it.
