Is it me, or does the Google Nest doorbell (wired Gen2) not work with the Nest App. It is my understanding that this only works with the Google Home App. WHY HAVE THE NEST APP??!!! I have a Gen1 Nest on my permanent home that alerts me (ON THE APP!!) when someone approaches the door. The Gen2 Nest doorbell is on a vacation property and there is no way to access the camera, let alone get notified, through the Nest app. Am I missing something, or is Google really trying to force you to use the Google Home app for everything. The Nest app is better to monitor what exactly I want to monitor. THIS is the the ONLY reason I bought the Gen2 for our vacation home, because I thought it work the same! DO BETTER GOOGLE!!!

Welcome to the nightmare of the last 3+ years which is when the Gen 2 cams were released and we all learned they only work with the GOOGLE HOME app. However you should be able to do just about everything you want to, including getting motion alerts, from the GOOGLE HOME app. A number of people are purchasing used Gen1 cameras (including me) so that they can stay in the NEST app.

Thank you for your response! I would hope that Google monitors this thread and gets the feedback about their products. Didn't realize this has been an on-going issue... should have done a little research beforehand! I would assume a product would take a step forward with a 2nd Gen product, but I guess 2 steps back to gain more control is what they wanted... I will not be recommending the Google Nest to my clients going forward.

We've been using 2 apps ever since buying a Google Nest Battery Camera 3 years ago, the Google Nest app for our older cameras and doorbells and the Google Home app for our two 2nd gen cameras.
In addition, 3 years later the Google Home app still lacks numerous Nest app features:
