Google Nest Doorbell (battery) and chimes

Richo1804

Hi - I have setup a new google nest doorbell (battery) and want to use my various google mini's as chimes.

I've followed the instructions of;

Google Home app

Doorbell

Settings

Doorbell and made sure "visitor announcement" is set to on.

However, the doorbell theme/chime option that appears below is greyed so I cannot turn this on.

As anyone else had this issue or can help?

Thanks!

From your persistence to help me, which I thank you so very much, I finally got the video and audio to connect with the hub! Ta Da! I really don’t’t know if it was just turn Do NotDisturb on and off but I am now breathing a sigh of relief. I love that this community helps us when we get frustrated.
I appreciate your knowledge and thank you again!

I can not get the chime to sound inside and I even bought the new 2nd generation hubs. I have the same greyed chime look. I have watched videos, reset everything, asked google to sync and nothing.

Hmmm, mine is working fine.  The option for me is not grayed out.   I guess in debugging this my first question is can you view the doorbell camera from you Google Hub?    I do this simply by saying "Hey Google show me my doorbell" and then is starts streaming the live video.  If this works then we at least know the devices are communicating.

Also,  I'm not sure it is a requirement but I have subscription.

Thanks! It must be what you say since I asked it to sync but I did what you said, and wala it worked! I still can’t get it to chime inside on the hubs. I have checked all settings, reset doorbell, etc.

I can't tell exactly from your wording but when you say "it works" are you saying that the thing that was greyed out is no longer greyed out?

Also, just to be clear when someone pushes the door bell what exactly happens on the hub?  It should pop right up with the live image from the camera.

So I know this sounds a little crazy but try doing a complete shut down of your phone for about 60 seconds and then bring it back up.  Sometimes the who re-sync with the cell-site and the phone restarting fixes a lot of things.

Let me know if that works.

I tried shutting down phone and iPad yesterday but that did not help. I can get the doorbell video on my brand new hubs if I ask google to show me. I still can not get the chime inside. I spent so many hours on this that I need to get more patience to be able to try again. I only bought the new hubs because the community said the chime would only work on them.
thanks for your suggestions!

So one more question.  When you push the button on the doorbell do the hubs automatically turn on and show you the doorbell's camera?  (IE is that part working and you are just not hearing the chime on the hub?).

No, they do not. I do get the video if I ask it. I have a nice Orbi mesh WiFi and the signal is great throughout the house and outside with other security cameras.  I have checked all the different settings, watched videos on you tube, turned on all notifications and do get them on my iPhones and iPads.

Ugg,,,, It is such a shame that all this technology is so unmanageable.  I feel your pain.  I have created a home of lots of high-tech gadgets and the time I spend maintaining them and debugging them is insane.

You have a great router and so much of the system is working that I don't think the problem is being causes by that.

It sounds like you have check everything but the only other thing I can think of is there any change that DO NOT DISTURB is turned on for the Google Hug?

Here is another test to see how things are working.  Using the intercom feature can you say "Hey Google Broadcast HELLO EVERYONE" and does it play on the other Google hub and other devices?   I'm just looking to see if that connectivity is in place and working.

That is great news.  Glad I could help.   Seems like technology is getting harder, not easier.
