Google Nest Doorbell (battery) is wired with AC but is still draining battery

EVK

Hi, I have a brand new Google Nest Doorbell installed and wired with AC12VAC (20VA) power as per specifications here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132?hl=en-GB

But it appears that it is still draining the battery. It looks like in the Home app it randomly shows infinity loop (wired power) or battery (70%). Restarting the app tends to reset it to "infinity loop". But I also noticed, that infinity loop might be there even if the power in the outlet is actually off. What is bothering me is that it was 76% charged in the morning, and now it's 73%. Which indicated that even though the device was supposed to be charging through the day, it actually didn't.

I forgot to mention my power unit:

It outputs 12VAC 1.67A 20VA, which I confirmed with my voltmeter.

I also confirmed that it chimes when power is on, and it does not chime when the power is off, which means the wiring and unit are performing as expected.

I have the same problem. My doorbell is wired into a 20V, 10VA AC adapter. Voltage confirmed with a multimeter. Battery still progressively discharges during the day when most events occur, but then does not appear to charge effectively (as compared to when plugged into USB) during time between events.

Same here. I have my doorbell hardwired and the battery will drain every week. Not sure what the point is in having it hardwired if it's going to die and take HOURS to charge. At this point, I'm willing to try out the new Wyze doorbell.

Thanks for responding, Brad.

Unfortunately, even when adjusting issues, the the doorbell battery dies.

Additionally, configuring the settings to a lower range sensitivity results events being missed. The trigger to record takes too long and will often only catch the end-tail of an event.

Hey folks,

Have you tried to go through your settings and lower your sensitivities and alerts? I would check your settings as you can save a bit more battery by removing/reducing some alerts, sensitivity settings, and the amount of alerts that come in. This all can lower your battery usage of your Nest Hello Doorbell.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi Brad,

I think the point is, this product was advertised as a wireless or a wired device. Everyone here has wired theirs according to Google's spec. There are plenty of devices out there (phones, laptops, watches) that don't discharge the battery when they're plugged in. Personally, this basic principle is what I was expecting when researching the product and deciding on the purchase. There shouldn't be a need to lower the battery usage, if the unit is plugged into a power source.

Same here. My power unit is 15VAC 1.33A 20VA. The chime works well, but the battery drained.

Same here,

Tried 4 different power supplys with different voltages and VA ratings. Still, the battery drains within a couple of days.

I am hard wired per the instructions. I have been maintaining a full charge since I am wired until this month. Out of nowhere, the doorbell started to lose charge and now is dead. Please help.
