Google Nest Doorbell does not ring on Google Nest Hub Max or Speaker

I've installed a Google Nest doorbell in my home (wired Gen 2) and although it sends notifications to my phone, it doesn't make noise or send a notification to my Google Nest Hub Max or Google Home Device. All these devices are linked to the same home and WiFi network and Visitor Announcements are turned on.

Does anyone have ideas on how I might be able to fix this? We're really counting on being notified on the Google Home and Hub Max devices when someone is at the doorbell.

It sounds like your Google Nest Doorbell (Wired, Gen 2) is correctly sending notifications to your phone but not to your Nest Hub Max or Google Home Device. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check Visitor Announcements Settings

  • Open the Google Home app → Tap on your Nest Doorbell.
  • Go to SettingsVisitor Announcements → Ensure it is turned on.
  • If it's already on, toggle it off and back on again.

2. Check Linked Devices

  • Open Google Home app → Tap your profile icon (top-right) → Assistant Settings.
  • Go to Devices → Ensure your Nest Hub Max and Google Home Device are listed.
  • If they aren’t there, re-link them using the "Add Device" option.

3. Reboot Your Devices

  • Restart your Nest Doorbell, Nest Hub Max, and Google Home Device.
  • Unplug them for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.

4. Check Google Home Routines

  • Open the Google Home app → Tap Routines.
  • Check if there’s a conflicting routine muting visitor announcements.

5. Check Do Not Disturb Settings

  • On the Google Nest Hub Max and Google Home, say:
"Hey Google, is Do Not Disturb on?"
  • If it is on, say: "Turn off Do Not Disturb."

6. Factory Reset (If Nothing Works)

  • If the problem persists, try factory resetting the Nest Doorbell and re-adding it in the Google Home app.

Hi howardcc,

Thanks for reaching out to the community!  I understand your Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) doesn't make or send any notification to your  Google Nest Hub Max even if both devices are on the same home and WiFi network. I understand how difficult it is when some devices don't work as expected. I'll be glad to help!

@jerry_Tomson, thanks for sharing some helpful steps to figure this out.

@howardcc, are you still having the same inconvenience after following the steps displayed above?

Please keep me posted. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Juan.

I was able to get it to work after re-installing the Next Hub and the Google Home speaker. They were previously installed as local area devices, which gave the appearance of being fully connected to the ecosystem but not having all of the features.
