Google Nest Doorbell

I think I’m at my wits end. I have a nest battery powered door bell and it no longer wakes up when there’s motion at the front door.  If the doorbell button is pressed it alerts inside the house, and I can see who is at the door however it no longer records when there’s motion. Nor does it provide any notifications (I’m assuming because it’s not recording the events.) My subscription is still active so that’s not the issue. I have restarted and reset the device (twice now) and it still isn’t functioning properly. Any other suggestions before I buy a new doorbell? (This one is about 2 years old).

Hi folks,

Thanks for chiming in, @EmptyNester

@EmptyNester, uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties with your Nest Doorbell (battery). Here are a few troubleshooting suggestions you can try before considering purchasing a new doorbell:

  1. Open the Nest app on your mobile device and navigate to the settings for your doorbell. Ensure that the motion detection settings are properly configured, including the motion sensitivity and activity zones. Adjusting these settings might help improve motion detection and recording.
  2. Ensure that your doorbell has a stable and reliable Wi-Fi connection. A weak or unstable Wi-Fi signal can impact the doorbell's performance. You can try moving your Wi-Fi router closer to the doorbell or adding a Wi-Fi extender to improve the signal strength.
  3. Make sure that the battery in your doorbell is charged sufficiently. A low battery level can affect the device's functionality, including motion detection and recording. If necessary, charge or replace the battery and monitor if the issue persists.
  4. Ensure that your doorbell's firmware is up to date. In the Nest app, go to the device settings and check for any available firmware updates. Keeping the firmware current can resolve known issues and improve performance.

I hope one of these suggestions helps resolve the issue with your Nest doorbell.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Zoe, I’ve done all of these things to no avail. (I usually exhaust all options before reaching out for help). While you’ve given guidance using the nest app, I am using the Google home app per the instructions that came with the device. Should I be doing something other than that? Or is it just time for a new door bell?

Hi Corienneb,  I think Zoe may have sent the wrong instructions.  If you have the NEST DOORBELL (Battery) then you defiantly need to be on the Google Home app.   The Nest app is only used for the older NEST HELLO Doorbell.

Thank you! I appreciate all your help.
