Google Nest Hub only displays doorbell camera with routines command - not garage camera

Eric-S

Verbal display commands work for both connected cameras, but the exact same commands in the routines only turn on the doorbell camera on the display.  I have them programmed to alternate doorbell and garage every hour, but that isn't working as hoped.  To see the garage door view I must manually tap the on screen controls, or verbally submit the same display command as in the routines.

Hi everyone,

@Eric-S, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, was this working before? If so, when did the issue start? The actions that you set for your Nest Camera and Nest Doorbell, are they on one routine? If so, try creating a different routine dedicated to each device. Hit this link to know more about creating routines in the Google Home app.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson

@Eric-S

We don't use routines, but it might make a difference in troubleshooting this to know which doorbell and which camera you have, those installed in the Google Nest app or those installed in the Google Home app?

I have NC5100US nest doorbell, and GA00515-US nest hub, and a G3AL9 nest security camera, all on the Google Home app working well, except the routine command to display the garage camera view.

Thanks,

Eric

@Eric-S

Is your G3AL9 Google Nest Camera (Battery) plugged in with the optional power cable, plugged in with the charging cord that comes with the camera, or running on battery power? If it's running on battery power, then it will normally be in "Idle" mode and perhaps that makes a difference in your routine. If it's plugged in with the charging cord that comes with the camera, there seems to be some uncertainty on how the camera functions under that condition, and perhaps that too makes a difference in your routine. If it's plugged in with the optional power cable, then I don't know why your routine does not work, unless there's something about it being a battery camera that throws off your routine even though it is plugged in.  (These are all guesses on my part.)

It’s powered with the cable. It does seem odd that the verbal command to display that camera view on the hub works every time. It just ignores the same command written just as spoken and the same as the doorbell camera which works from the routine as well as verbal. They both also work when using the touch commands on the hub display.

thanks

Outstanding!!  I had two issues that needed to be corrected. When I tried setting up a new routine for immediate action the hub responded it didn’t understand the command. That was the same as the doorbell camera that was working.

I used a simpler command: “Display garage door camera” which still didn’t work in the one routine that did work for the doorbell camera.

When I created a new routine with only commands for the garage door camera it has now worked great for the first time since I installed the additional camera there.

Thank you for the help!!
