Nest Doorbell (battery) won't latch

The doorbell won't reattach to the mount after I removed it for a charge. I contacted support and the rep was excited to tell me my device is out of warranty by a few months and she would email links to purchase a new one. I am truly pissed.

@Rowan2

I've seen a lot of posts like this. One customer squirted a little WD-40 into the release button to get it to work again (after taping over the other openings to avoid getting it inside the doorbell). The mounting mechanism seems inadequate for a doorbell that has to get removed regularly for charging.

The WD-40 didn't help and I ended up taking the device apart. The WD-40 actually caused more harm than good, as it loosened the glue on a tiny part of the latch mechanism (circled in green) and swelled the rubber seal along the perimeter of the doorbell.Nest Doorbell (battery) latch mechanismI used a tiny flat head screwdriver to deburr the part that gets pushed down with the release tool.

Hello everyone,

@Rowan2 It's us again. I'm bumping up this thread to ensure that everything is covered here. To confirm, did you remove a piece of your Nest Doorbell? If possible, could you send us the photo of your Nest Doorbell and its mounting plate with the piece that you removed.

Keep us posted.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer and Brad.

Regards,

Emerson

I didn't quite remove a piece. I smoothed out the sides of the plunger that you push down with the key. The plastic is fairly soft and gets burrs from being pushed down with a metal key. The plunger piece is in the center of the red rectangle in the linked picture. This isn't the same doorbell, but it did work after I reassembled it. I should be able to get a picture of it tomorrow.

This is the original doorbell. The plunger is lower on this one. https://imgur.com/a/6qJ8k8C
