Google Next Wired Door Bell and Alex

mnordeen

I've been trying got get my wired Google Nest Door Bell to show up on my Alexa show to no avail.  After researching, it appears that this option is only available for battery Google Nest Door Bells.  Could that be correct?  This is what I found in Google Help:

Alexa can announce the following Nest camera and doorbell events:

  • Doorbell press: Alexa announces when someone presses a Nest Doorbell (battery). Some Alexa devices with a display also automatically stream live view from the doorbell.
  • Motion detection: Alexa announces when a Nest camera or doorbell detects motion.

I have the skills enabled.  Alexa will show me the front door so the doorbell is connected but it doesn't show in devices as a doorbell in the Alex App.  It shows as a camera. I don't understand how it has different functionality with Alexa by being wired but I have struggled with this for a long time and my electrician has as well.  Any help is appreciated.  FYI - The label I had to choose to submit this post didn't even offer Nest Doorbell (wired) only (Battery). What's up with that?

Hi mnordeen,

Thanks for visiting the Community. Thanks for giving us a heads up! We appreciate your efforts here. If your Nest Hello doorbell (wired) doesn’t show up in the Alexa app. If you set up a new Nest device after you enabled the Google Nest skill for other devices, you’ll need to turn on permissions for the new device in the Google Home app.

Here’s how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account profile > Home app settings.
  3. Tap Partner Connections > Amazon Alexa.
  4. Turn on permissions for your new device.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

Hi JT,

Yes, these settings were all enabled.  Unfortunately, it does not help.

My Alexa Show can see the doorbells. I can say "Alex, show me the front door."  However, there is no way to enable visitor announcements.  When I look in the Alex app, the doorbells show up as cameras, not doorbells, so I don't know if that is why we can't enable the visitor announcements or doorbell press announcements. EXCEPT when you look at any instructions it always says Nest Doorbell (Battery). Unfortunately, it looks like we are going to have to switch out the Nest Doorbells for Ring.

Thanks for the advice.

Hi there,

Got it, great troubleshooting so far. Don’t give up on us yet. Visit Amazon's website for help with Alexa, including its connection to Nest products. For example, you may need to toggle permissions for the Nest skill, or you may need to disable the skill and then re-enable it. Amazon's website has step by step instructions and additional troubleshooting suggestions:

For ease of the steps, you may also keep in touch with their support team.

Hey there,

Checking back in — did you get a chance to try the steps I shared earlier? Still need our help?

Regards,

JT

Hi JT,

Yes, I tried all those steps.  I deleted the devices, I removed the skill.  I tried to do everything all over again to see if I missed a step.  What is very telling to me is that Google instructions state that the Alexa alert only works with (Wired) Google Nest doorbells.  So, it is very apparent that my wired doorbell is incompatible.  My doorbell shows up in Alexa, but only as a camera.  I cannot get door press alerts.  I can ask Alexa to show me the front door and my Alex show will allow me to view it, so the connection is there, just not the capability.  It's very frustrating and I worked for a day with an electrician to make it work. I even tried to set up a routine with Alexa, "If doorbell pressed" "Show front door."  No luck.

Thanks,

Merry
