Google battery nest doorbell, will not announce names of people it recognises

Olibobs

Hi

I recently bought a nest doorbell. It's great. I started a subscription and started facial recognition, when people ring the doorbell it announces the person. However the last two days it will detect the person and notify me of the person coming, but not announce it over the Google mini nest. It has previously done this but stopped. I found a previous conversation, similar to this and face detection is on and it does correctly notify me on my phone. But does not announce it on the Google mini like it had done previously. Is there anyway to fix this. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Olibobs,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. No worries; we'll check this out. Just a few questions: have you checked if the visitor announcement or the familiar face detection is turned on on the Nest app or Google Home app? Do you still have active Nest Aware subscriptions? Check out this link on how to turn on visitor announcement and familiar face detection

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Edmond

Hi

It's overall a great product, I'm on a one month nest trial, and have face detection on, but often the nest mini will say there's someone at the door, but on my phone say olibobs is at the door. This means it's recognizing the face but not declaring it over the airways. This seems strange, it also has a slight delay ,

Internet is great connection, and works on everything else. Nest mini works through Bluetooth phone and no delay then, just wondering if this error had a fix .

Hi there,

Thanks for the information. Have you tried doing a factory reset on the Nest Mini? Check out this link on how to do a factory reset on Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

Let me know if that helps.

Best,
Edmond

Sorry see message below not sure I tagged you on correctly

Also switched to a nest normal speaker and this issue still occurs, on a side note, is there a way to make both speakers notify when the door bell goes the nest mini is in my bedroom and the nest speaker is in the kitchen

Hello Olibobs,

Thanks for the follow-up information. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with your Nest doorbell and for the delayed response here. Don’t worry. I’m here to help.

Let’s turn on personal results for your Google Nest Mini speaker.

  1. Make sure that your doorbell is in the same home as your speaker or display. If it’s not, you won’t get visitor announcements.
  2. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app Google Home.
  3. At the bottom, tap Home Home > Settings Settings.
  4. Under “Features”, tap Google Assistant > Personal results.
  5. Edit the settings for the devices in your home.
  6. Tap the name of your speaker or display.
  7. To turn on personal results, check the box next to the device name.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate your help, Edmond and Jenelyn.

Regards,

Lance

Hi sorry for the delay, I have been in Corfu,

I've tried the reset now, there's a few issues. First it's intermittent. It seems that if a person is moving then it will only announce that someone is at the front door. If they are stood still it will say there name, but only sometimes, my wife just did it then, she rang it 4 times but it only came through to the nest mini twice and only the second time did it recognize her.

This is what we find, that I will be stood at the door and only 50 percent of the time will it recognize me or mention it. It always mentions it generally on the phone recognizing who the individual is but not announcing the name.

The phone will often recognize whilst the nest mini will say someone is at the front door.

Hope this is enough information to help.
