My Google doorbell (battery) chimes outside and inside on my Google Home speaker and announces "There is someone at the Front Door Doorbell".
However on my new Google Pixel tablet Charging Speaker Dock it neither chimes nor announces.
All devices are on the same network, and 'Notifications' is set to 'On'.
I've tried with the Google Home speaker installed and uninstalled. I've factory reset the Charging Speaker Dock and doorbell.
How do I get audable alerts on my Pixel tablet Charging Speaker Dock? Is the new Charging Speaker Dock designed to do it?

Hello, I have escalated this and hopefully you will get a response from the folks at Google.

I have the same issue. No alert at all. If you swipe from the top you can see it's in the notifications. However, should ring or even automatically pop open a video like the hubs do

Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out — let's get this sorted out.
The new Pixel Tablet is neither a smart display nor a smart speaker, so visitor announcements will not work on this device.
While this feature isn't available, we're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback.
Let us know if you have other questions as I'll be locking the thread after 24 hours.
Appreciate the help, EmptyNester.
Best,

That's not really getting this "sorted out"
What a monumental product miss by Google! Do you not want customers to engage and buy your product suite? It tells me on a mobile and on a smart display but not the Google pixel tablet.....?
Come on Google what's happening with your product and test teams.

so, i need to buy a nest speaker to put next to my new pixel tablet since the tablet doesnt chime for doorbells? even though i also just bought a doorbell to go with this tablet.

when it's docked, why doesn't it just run an emulator that runs the hubs? that seems like a simple fix. this is what 99% of the pixel tablet buys are expecting.

Thanks for the advice. I have applied to return the tablet as this does not meet my needs. The ability for the 'smart' speaker to give voice alerts for the doorbell is a main reason I bought the tablet.

I returned it today to Best Buy and bought a Home Hub Max instead.
Maybe if they add an emulator to become a home hub when docked, I'll try it again.
I was also very disappointed that it wont announce broadcasts, and you can't call it by selecting 'call home' from your phone when you are away. that is a tool I use daily to contact my children when I am at work.

it does broadcast announcements. I added mine to a speaker group and now that works.

I agree, this seems like a fundamental feature. Particularly since the product is advertised as a replacement for the hub. Maybe someone could get back to us about what the time frame is for adding this feature?
06-28-2023 11:08 AM
That doesn't seem correct since there's literally an option on the tablet to show doorbell on ring. is that there for a future update then?

The doorbell does show on the tablet when it is rung, but that is not what the issue is. The expectation is that the docking hub (or the tablet) has a voice announcement like you get on the Home hub. E.g "Geoff is at the Front Door doorbell". Unless you are actually right next to the tablet you would never know someone was at the front door. Unless you also had a Home hub or Nest Mini as well, of course.
I have returned my tablet so I'm unable to test the following possible solution:
I had hoped that you could add an Automation in the Home app. Eg.
Automations > + > Household > + Add starter > When a device does something > Front door doorbell > Doorbell rings o > Add starter > + Add action > Communicate and announce > Announce to household (Select device) > All home devices in [home].
As I no longer have my tablet/dock, I'd be interested if the tablet/dock appears as an option. and if this is a solution. I can't test it as my only devices now are the Google Home speaker and Nest Mini, as these are now all I have.

I just looked and it didn't show the dock/tablet for the automation.

Thanks for checkinng Jskye, I suspected that would be the case. If the hub device had the capability, you shouldn't have to go through those complicated steps anyway. It should work straight out of the box, like it does for the Home hub abnd Nest Mini, etc.

Mine shows nothing or makes no announcement when the nest doorbell is rung. And yes I have the setting set with show doorbell. And according to the person who replied from Google it doesn't show on the tablet ( when docked) when the doorbell is rung.

Mine showed up once and now it doesn't. They are right though, there was no audio person that time.

Hi there, from what I gather, this feature is coming soon - sorry for some of the confusing responses on this thread.
