Green light blinking when no one is watching

Tamsyn

I have a google camera, occasionally I see the green light blinking, which from my understanding means someone is watching.
Today I noticed it blinking, assumed it was my husband watching so waved then texted him to say hi, he said it definitely wasn’t him watching, so now I am concerned our camera has been hacked, I’ve since unplugged it. I know my neighbour has the same type of camera, could they have picked up our camera as well?

It can be blinking if streamed to a nest screen as well.

Hi everyone,

@Tamsyn, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the Nest camera. Don’t worry; help’s here.

A few questions: what model of Nest camera do you have? Do you use Google Home or the Nest app? Are there any other family members added to the same home structure where the camera is linked?

Let’s try the troubleshooting steps below:

Check if there are other people aside from you and your husband, added to the home and remove them.

On the Nest app:

  1. Open the Nest app.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon on the home screen.
  3. Select Family & Guests app family and guests icon.
  4. Choose the person you’d like to remove.
  5. Tap Remove access.
  6. Confirm that you’d like to remove this person from your Nest home.

On the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. If you have more than one home, tap Favorites .
  3. At the top, select the home you want to edit.
  4. Tap Settings Settings.
  5. Under the home name, tap the profile icons of home members.
  6. Select the profile icon of the home member you want to remove.
  7. At the top right, tap Remove and then Remove.

On the other hand, if you don’t see other people added to the home structure, I’d recommend changing you and your husband’s Nest account password to remove any unauthorized users.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for chiming in, AlexNoom.

All the best,

Lance
