Have Cameras connected and working via Home App how do I connect them to be Nest account

I have 4 Google Nest Cameras setup for outdoor use. I have connected them successfully to the Home App and can see video and events on the Home App. I would like to connect these cameras to my Nest account and then start paying for s subscription so that we can see the events and video via the Nest App and also on our computers.

I have looked everywhere for help to do that and when I attempt to Add a product via the Nest App it directs me to the Home App for installation which is already complete.

I cannot workout how to get them connected to the Nest App

Keep in mind a couple of things:

* Your video history starts with when you purchase the subscription.

* "You can’t change your billing plan cycle from monthly to annual or from annual to monthly" (https://support.google.com/store/answer/9396337?hl=en). Remarkably, you have to cancel the old subscription and buy a new one.

If I am not mistaken, you have a second generation of cameras, they cannot be installed in the Nest app unless they would be first generation cameras.

Yes I think you are right. But is there anyway to connect these cameras to a Nest Account so that I can see the camera feed in the Nest App and online.

At the moment my camera's seem to be limited to 30 days of events that are available on the camera ?

@scott56hannah

You have a "Nest Account" and your cameras are connected to your Nest Account, but the newer Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in Sept. 2021 work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app. (This was a decision Google Nest made 2 years ago.) We've had to use 2 apps ever since getting a battery camera in Sept. 2021.

It sounds like you may be on the 30-day free trial version of the Nest Aware subscription. Here is Google Nest's help topic on the 30-day trial subscription:

Here is a help topic on what you get with each type of subscription:

@MplsCustomer

Thanks for that detail very helpful

So there is only the Home App for my generation of Google Nest Camera.

So I can only use Nest Aware on my computer via a browser ? Is that right ? Well I am still having problems connecting the camera's to that. When I click Add Product it asks me to connect the camera to my computer I am assuming via the usb cable. But my cameras are already installed around the house and wired into power. So do I need to detach each camera and bring them into the computer to connect them to Nest Aware ?

Lastly yes my Free Trial Nest Aware subscription has ended. But if I can get this working and visible on my computer for Event detection and Video History I will be happy to signup to a subscription.

Thanks for your help on this...

@scott56hannah

Nest Aware is a subscription service that provides video history.

The history for our older cameras and doorbells can be accessed in the Google Nest app and on the home.nest.com website on a computer. For these older cameras and doorbells, you can now also access EVENT video history (but NOT 24/7 video history) in the Google Home app.

The history for the newer cameras and doorbells can ONLY be accessed in the Google Home app. The beta/preview home.google.com website that went live in Oct. 2022 shows livestreaming only for all cameras and doorbells, but no history. So you CANNOT view video history for the newer cameras and doorbells on your computer at this time.

@MplsCustomer

Right so there is no way currently with the newer cameras to store longer than 30 days of history. Which is currently stored on the camera's themselves.

There is no way for me to transfer those events or videos to my Google Drive or Google Nest.

Is the intention one day for the Google Home website to provide that capability.

@scott56hannah

That is not correct.  The newer cameras can only store about an hour's worth of video history if they are offline.  The rest is stored on Google Nest's servers.

How much history you can get depends on the camera or doorbell AND whether you have a Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus subscription.  For example, we have a battery camera plugged in with the optional 10-meter power cable, and we have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, so we get 10-day 24/7 video history and 60-day event history on that camera.

See this link for details:

With the newer cameras, you can only download clips of detected events to your computer or phone.

Google Nest's blog posts have hinted at adding more capabilities to the home.google.com website.

Ok thanks again @MplsCustomer

I did not realise that the video history was getting automatically uploaded to the Nest Servers. I had thought it was just storing on the camera and that was where I was getting the events and data from.

So if I do enable a Nest Aware subscription I think I will start to see the history being stored which it is no longer doing since the trial stopped.

I will give that a go now and see what happens over the next few days.

Thanks for your help on this. I can see now that I have enable a Nest Subscription that data is being retained and available for review.

I will note the other comment about changing plans should I need to do that.
