Home App displaying all cameras

I am using my google chromebook to show "all cameras" on the display.  The display works as expected for my Nest Cam (wired) it is a constant display no problems.  And the outdoor batter cameras do not display as live as expected since they are battery.  But 2 issues...  1)  the wired outdoor floodlight displays but it turns the floodlight on... I don't want the floodlight on all the time that it is being dispalyed on the chromebook, just when it sees an alert.  It also randomly stops displying on the chromebook, not sure why.  2) The nest doorbell will display for awhile and then it just stops displaying... i would like a constant display.

Can you help me understand how to have a constant display on all of the camera that are wired without turning on the floodlight?

thank you

Hi Susa,

Thanks for posting in the Community — let's get this sorted out.

You can change the settings so that it doesn’t turn the floodlight on automatically whenever you check your camera’s live stream at night.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings > What turns on the floodlight.
  4. Tap the switch next to Live viewing to toggle it on or off.

Here’s a handy guide on how to Change floodlight settings.

For the Nest Doorbell (battery), to save power, the live video stream will stop automatically after a few minutes.

  • Live video from battery-powered Nest cameras and doorbells stops after 5 minutes.
  • Live video from wired Nest cameras and doorbells stops after 12 hours.

More information here.

I hope that helps.

Best,

Lance

That fixed the light coming on!  ...

But our doorbell display on "all cameras" goes dark after ~5 minutes and it is hard wired not battery.  Is there anyway to fix that?

Thank you!

Hey Susa,

Thank you for the update. Do you recall if you selected the option to use wired terminals instead of batteries during the doorbell setup? If not, you may need to set up the doorbell again, and make sure to choose wire terminals as the power source for your doorbell.

Follow the steps below if needed:

  1. Save any video history on the device, if any. Follow this guide.
  2. Unmount the device, then connect it to the USB cable and power adapter, if applicable.
  3. Locate the reset pin on the device.
  4. Insert and hold the pin (you can use an unfolded paper clip or a thumbtack).
  5. At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  6. At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the device starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
  7. Release the button. Your device will restore to its factory settings.
  8. After the factory reset, your device will appear as "Offline" in the app until you remove it. Also, the status light should be pulsing blue.
  9. To remove it from the app, open the Google Home app, select the device, and then tap Settings > Remove device > Confirm.
  10. Make sure the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  11. Bluetooth should be enabled, but it should not be connected to any Bluetooth devices. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices paired to your phone, such as earbuds, smartwatches, etc.
  12. Cellular data should be turned off.
  13. If you have an iOS device, tap Settings > Privacy > Local Network and turn on Local Network Access for the Google Home app.
  14. Start adding the device back to the Google Home app.

You can watch a video guide here.

Let me know how it goes.

Lance

Hi Lance,

When we had the doorbell installed we told them we wanted it wired... it is not on battery power, we have never had to charge any batteries.  Is there another step in the installation process where you identify that it is wired?

thank you

Hello Susa,

Thanks for getting back to me. During the setup of the Nest Doorbell (battery), you will be asked by the Google Home app: "What will you use to power the doorbell?" Make sure to choose wired terminals.

You can also check what the doorbell is using for power in the Google Home app. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Verify that the Google Account shown at the top right is the one linked to the camera. To switch accounts, tap your account photo or initials, then tap the drop-down arrow. Then, choose the correct account.
  3. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  4. Select the doorbell from the list of devices.
  5. Tap Settings.
  6. Under Device features, tap Battery.

If the device is set up as wired, the battery state should show "plugged in."

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Lance

Hi Lance,

I followed your instructions and the doorbell device shows the battery state as "plugged in", But it still cuts off in the display of all cameras after ~five minutes.

Thank you
