Home App not sending Camera Notifications

SigPiPup
Community Member

Hi.

We have two Nest Cam (battery) and one Nest Hello doorbell.  For well over a year (almost two) there have been no issues with the cameras or the notifications.

Now; however, both of our phones have stopped receiving notifications from all three camera.   One day there were no issues, and then suddenly there was.  It has persisted for well over a week now.

Notification settings on our phones have been checked and are on.  Restarted both phones.  No change.  Removed one of the cameras from the app and reinstalled it.  No change.  App version is the latest version.

I don't believe that the problem is with the cameras as it is highly unlikely all three would fail at the same time.  On top of that, all three cameras function still.  The problem has to be with the App itself or maybe the service.  I don't know.

Nest Aware service reports no outages.

I've tried everything that I've read for notification issues and nothing has worked.  I'm wondering if the most recent update to the App has caused this.

Is anyone else having a problem?

Hello SigPiPup,

Thanks for posting here in the community and sorry to hear if you don't receive any notifications anymore. Let's see our options here. To confirm, is the Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode turned off or on?

Give these steps a try:

  • Try turning off and on the notification from your Google Home app or Nest App.
  • Toggle on the notification of your Google Home app from your phone settings.
  • Try setting up an activity zone.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Emerson

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay.

No, actually nothing has worked.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Home app and the cameras (actually just one camera, but figured it was a good enough to test).  I've tried turning notifications on and off.  I even updated the iOS for the phone.

For a bit, i was getting a few notifications for two of the cameras, but that has since stopped.  The doorbell cam hasn't notified at all through all of it.

I just checked history on my driveway cam...hasn't captured anything for 4 hours (and I just got home).  Doorbell cam did capture us entering the house, but didn't notify.

These three cams worked reliably for quite some time now and notified us of everything, annoyingly so at times, but at least they worked.  Now, nothing.

Hey SigPiPup,

We appreciate you for trying here. Let’s get this sorted — a few questions: Is there enough memory on your phone storage? Also, is the Do Not Disturb off and the Background app refresh on in your iPhone settings?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can also try:

  1. Restart your Nest camera.
    • Plug the camera into a power source.
    • Locate the reset button at the back of the camera.
    • Press and hold for 5 seconds.
    • Your camera will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.
  2. Restart your modem or router, unplug it from the power outlet for 1 to 2 minutes. Then, plug it back in.
  3. For iOS devices, go to Settings > Notifications > Google Home and follow the configuration below.
    • Allow notifications is enabled.
    • You may disable any or all notification options.
  4. Restart your phone. Turn it off for 60 seconds. Then, turn it back on.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

JT

Hi.  Thanks.

Yeah.  Did all of that.  Nothing.

It seems like all notifications (both cameras and the doorbell) are sending notifications to  my wife's phone just fine.  I have a much newer phone than her and we both have the latest iOS.

I'm at a loss.
