You are not alone, same issue, presence sensing is not working. And has not been working for some time.
I have tried everything, reinstalled all cameras and doorbell, re-installed Google Home, deleted my "Home" and created a new one. And still the presence sensing is not working, the Routine when saying "away" to the assistant does not work either the assistant recognizes the command but does not switch to "away"...

Too bad we can not get a definitive answer from Google.

I had a long chat with Google Nest support yesterday with no solution.
My topic is escalated to 2nd lvl, waiting for reply.

On the other hand, I did try something different yesterday.
I reversed the versions on Google Home back to an older version 2.49XXX something, i.e., a version released before the beginning of April.

This have actually solved the problem for me, so in version before 2.50XXX presence sensing is working. So it is definitely Google Home which is the problem.

Mega Jorg,

How do you "reverse" the version?  If I send you my email address would you send me the instructions?

Sure do that and I will reply to you.

Thanks.

OK, I have been working with the people at "Made by Google" in the Messenger system for the last four days.  They are either technicians or people with a lot of Google experience.  In any case, they are as frustrated as I am with this situation.  There apparently is no currently known resolution for this problem.  Since presence sensing worked fine with version 2.48XXX, I would recommend that Google roll back to that and then study and fix the problem and the resend the update.

I fully agree, as mentioned before directly to you, I use version 2.48.75.6 and that one works.

I was told by 2nd line support, to report this directly in the App by sending feedback, so I did.

Please do the same, perhaps they will notice if a lot of us do this.

I did.  I used their link.  But I did not have the complete version number, I used 2.48xxx.  But they should get the message.  We'll see.  But haven't got my hopes up.
