Home/away not working

Im really hating the app right now! I’ve deleted the Google apps in favor of the nest app attempting to resolve the issue of the cameras turning on when I leave the house. 
App is set to use my phone, 

nest is set to use cellular and WiFi 

all nest notifications are on

nest is set to run in background at all times 

I left the house this evening and arrived at a diner 25min away, opened the app and it switched from home to away and turned on the cameras at that point. What am I missing!!

Not sure is you are using the new or old Nest Cams. The newer Nest Cams only work with the Google Home app. I have 6 Nest cams and the Home and Away work for me. Just maybe a few tips. Everyone in your home group (members) must be away, (not just you), the app must have location permissions "all the time" , not just while using the app.

My nest app/cameras stopped switching (home/away) a few weeks ago.  It randomly works rarely but I usually have to manually set it.   If I open the app it will always switch correctly.  It used to switch with me not having to open the nest app.   All my settings are correct and this is not the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd time that this “feature” has stopped working.  Support always claims it’s my fault but miraculously the issue gets fixed at some random point in time in the future without me having to change anything.  I’ve come to the realization that Google products suck and unfortunately I’ve invested quite a bit of money in their ecosystem. But I’ve sworn I’ll never buy another Google device

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration. 

 

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. There is no rhyme or reason as to when it will work. This morning I left and came back and no change. Worked fine yesterday
