How can I get my security cameras to detect cars and vehicles? I live in a rural area and want that

Hi.  I have several Google/Nest security cameras hooked up, but they do not record vehicles!!  (they recorded a bunny hopping the other day).   We live in a rural area and want to monitor any vehicle entering our property.   Currently they don't do that.  How can I make these cameras record vehicles too?

I think that feature depends on which cameras you have. The ones that can detect vehicles can have that setting enabled in the Home app. Once you are in the Home app, find the camera, then enter the settings of the camera. Under events you can select "seen events" and enable it for vehicles. You can also choose to enable the notifications.

Hi Jenelyn, we need some way to make the event recording minimum time longer.  The cameras are correctly detecting vehicles now; however, the event recording is much too short.  It stops recording while there is still motion happening.  As I mentioned, our Internet is limited, so we can not use 24/7 event recording.  We need some way to make every detected event record for a longer duration. Thank you!

I don't think this applies to all of the cameras but some of them have an option under video settings that let you select the maximum length of recording.

Hi Carlos,  I don't need to set the maximum, but I do need to set the MINIMUM recording time.  Is there some way to do that?  We have multiple cameras, both wired and battery.  Thank you!

The maximum recording time might be too low right now and that is why it stops recording while there is still motion.

Ok, I will try that and see if it makes a difference.  Thanks Carlos!

Hi Carlos,

We did change the MAX record time to 3 minutes, but that is not helping.

Today we had visitors that were walking about in front of our Battery camera for about 5 minutes, but the recording only captured 10 seconds of video!   This is completely not acceptable.

We need the camera to at least capture usable videos.  The way it is now, the video is next to useless.  I can not recommend, and would go further to warn people NOT to buy this solution.

How can we get Nest/Google to allow people with event-based recording to capture useful video?  Our limited internet does not allow us to do 24/7 recordings.

My camera was installed by ADT, it won't detect a big garbage truck or an EMT vehicle. It shows a vehicle stop in my drive way and then the next time it shows it is gone, That isn't any help for protecting at all.

This is the same issue I have with the Google Nest Aware Event Recording plan.  Events are not completely captured, and there is no ability to set a MINIMUM record time for events.  If someones stands still the event just stops.  And if the person moves quickly, they can avoid detection due to long startup time for the next event.  I would be willing to purchase the 24/7 plan if they would just let me record events for a longer duration.  I can't actually use 24/7 recording, due to bandwidth limitations in our rural community, but I would pay for it just to get longer event recording times.   Sad to say, but at this point I have buyer's remorse.  We did not get what we were promised and what we paid for.

Hi everyone,

@nouse, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, do you have a Nest Aware subscription?

@Lee139, we appreciate you sharing here your thoughts and ideas. I understand that the feature you're referring to is not available however, with the 24/7 event recording of the Nest Aware you'll have an option to create clips. Also, we’ll take note of your concern and ensure that we'll learn from your experience as we continually improve our products and services. Rest assured that we'll take this as feedback and learn from this to deliver a better process and experience in the future.

I appreciate your answer, CarlosS and Jenelyn.

Regards,

Emerson
