How does Nest thermostat detects people are home?

I didn’t see the Nest 3rd gen thermostat product listed.

I’m a little concerned that the Nest senses people are home… how does it do that and how does it work?? I can’t figure it out.

Hi @Angela_1007,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you'd like to know how your Nest Thermostat detects when people are at home. I'd be happy to assist you.

There's a feature called Home/Away Assist. It uses input from activity sensors in your Nest products managed in the Nest app and your phone’s location to automatically switch the behavior of Nest products in your home when you leave and when you come back. You don’t have to manually set each product or rely on a fixed schedule. With this, you can then check your thermostat's activity within the Nest app.

For more information, I recommend visiting the article "Change Home/Away Assist settings."

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Anders
