How does this happen

How can you possibly sell me a NESTCAM with floodlight that doesn’t work with the NEST app.

Please do not force the Google app on people who never wanted Nest to be a part of Google.

i have 8 Nest cameras, Nest Guard, Nest Protect and Nest + Yale door locks and now I have a single camera on my driveway watching my $150k worth of cars and it seemingly doesn’t have 24x7 history that I paid for and doesn’t work in my NEST APP.

i highly suggest everyone create a new post until this is corrected.  No one wants to use the Google Hone app.  Cool?

This has been an ongoing issue for months. Any of the newer cameras released in 2021 only work with the Google Home App. Google’s intention is very much to force the use of the Google Home App which is super unfortunate.

I have to completely get rid of all nest products?

That’s what I heard… because I don’t want google products.  Just because you made a good search engine and decent free email doesn’t mean you know what I need for my smart home.

Stick to what you are good at google.

The basic problem is that Google acquired Nest, and they're taking the products in a totally different direction.    When you buy a company, you get to make choices like that...  Unfortunately this sort of brand abandonment is common in such large acquisitions, and a lot of companies like Google just don't ever seen to learn from the mistakes of others that have done the same thing.  Brand and ecosytem matter  tremendously to retaining the brand value, but the folks doing the acquiring just don't seem to understand that.  Most acquisitions fail to increase value of the brand because of this.

Hi there,

You can post on the main blog post about the new 2nd Gen cameras along with many other users.

We have a new Google Nest Camera (Battery) that we got in Sept. 2021 and discovered that it ONLY works in the Google Home app (so we're stuck with having to use 2 apps). However, because we have it plugged in with the optional power cable, it records 24/7 with our existing Nest Aware Plus subscription. The floodlight camera SHOULD also record 24/7 if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, though judging from some customer posts in this forum there seem to be some problems with that.  (For the newer cameras, the Nest Aware history is accessed ONLY in the Google Home app.)

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on the web app . I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

Best Regards,

Brad

P.S Thank you @Rubes @Cathal_S for your assistance!

Oddly my Nest cameras have worked just fine with my Google Hub but I'm just wondering if I don't have the option of checking these cameras from the web?  Do I have to use an app?  I really wish I could speak directly with the genius that thought ruining a fairly good system was a good idea.

I am fairly upset right now given I have thousands of dollars invested in cameras, smoke detectors, thermostat, and security system and now have the crap is on Nest and this new camera just doesn't?  Can you please tell me where to buy ACTUAL NEST cameras and not Google crap.

Who can tell to make it right?  Google has a long history of failures and this is one of them.

There are forums and threads all over the internet and not a single person seems happy about this change so why not just make it right?  Accept that your fake reason to force people to use a Google app that no one wants to use isn't going to fly and allow these cameras to work with Nest as advertised OR you can re market them as GOOGLE CAMERAS and lose the Nest name in the model.

Feels alot like false advertising to me.

Brad does the Google NEST Camera work with the NEST app yet?  Please don't close this thread until that is fixed so I don't have to use different apps.  Also please escalate this thread up the chain to some VP or DM that needs to see it.

No, there are no such plans as far as I am aware. The new 2021 Cams are exclusive to the Google Home app.
