I don’t have a mechanical doorbell installed in my home, is it necessary to have one to install the wired Nest Doorbell 2nd generation?

If you have an electrical outlet near your door, you could purchase an OhmKat Video Doorbell Power Supply:
We've used one of these for the last couple of years for one of our 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbells.
For some reason, the power adapter that Google sells is NOT compatible with the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell:

After you install your doorbell, you'll want to turn off the "Indoor chime"option, since you won't have an indoor doorbell chime. Note that you can instead use "Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451).
