I have my deceased brother’s google nest cam and don’t know how to change it to me.

My brother died. I bought the Google Nest Cam (indoor/outdoor) Battery on his credit card to put in his vacant home until it could be sold.

I had the camera turned on and could watch his home thru the Google Home App. Now his home has sold.
Now I have the device.  Initially his stepson set this all up and he has access to the recordings, etc.   I want to change all of  this so that I am the only one on the account.
how do I turn off everything in my current Google Home App (shared with the step-nephew)  and set all up anew with my home and the camera and my apple email so that step nephew does not have access.

@Bodhi757

You'll probably want to use the steps in Google Nest's moving guide (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/11151047?hl=en), which basically involve removing all Google Nest devices from the Google Home app while connected to the Wi-Ffi at your brother's house, doing a factory reset, and then doing a re-install in the Google Home app while logged onto your new Google (gmail) Account on the Wi-Fi at your house. You have to use a Google (gmail) Account.

Hello everyone,

@Bodhi757, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. I would suggest you ask your step nephew to remove the Nest Camera from his Google Home app with this own account. After that, you can reset your Nest Camera to the factory default and add it to your Google Home app with your own account.

To reset:

1. Locate the reset button on the back of the camera.

  • Tip: The reset button on the Nest Cam (battery) is located on the back of the camera head.

2. Press and hold the button:

  • At 10 seconds, the status light will flash yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the camera starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.

3. Release the button. Your camera will restore to its factory settings.

4. After the factory reset, your camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.

To remove it from the app, open the app, tap on the device, then tap Settings> Remove device > Confirm.

5. Hit this link for more information.

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Emerson
