I tried to delete a family member yesterday in Google Home, but it deleted the home from Nest

I tried to delete a family member from one of my Homes yesterday in Google Home,  but instead it deleted the entire home from Nest including all cameras,  thermostats and smoke detectors.  I can't even add the home back to Nest by hitting the plus and checking that home in Google Home as it just keeps going back to the default page.  What is going on?

Hi Tricia1,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm very sorry to hear that you accidentally deleted your Home structure from your Google Home app account. I understand how frustrating this must be, and I'm here to help.

As you've discovered, when you delete a "Home," it's permanently removed from your Google Account. This means you'll lose control of all the devices associated with that "Home" through the Google Home app. To regain control, you'll need to set up those devices again within a new "Home." This includes:

  • Lights

  • Displays

  • Speakers

  • Cameras

  • Thermostats

Additionally, deleting a "Home" will lock any data associated with it. For example, if you have Nest cameras, your video history will be inaccessible. Your customized thermostat settings will also be deleted.

Unfortunately, this means you will need to create a new Home structure and reconnect all your Google devices to the application to regain control over them.

Please let me know how the reconnection process goes and keep me updated.

Regards,

Kevin
