IPAD must be on for Hub notifications

Hi.

I have recently set up 3 hubs and a nest wired doorbell via next and Google home apps on my mother in law's iPad. All working well when IPad is turned on. However when the iPad is off the doorbell no longer sounds notifications on the hubs. You can still ask the hubs to show you the front door and they do but they won't announce someone at the door when the bell is pressed if the UPad is turned off.

What have I done wrong ?. Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi Whippet,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that your Google Nest Displays are not announcing when someone is at the door. Don't worry; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I'd like to confirm some details with you. Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • Do you have a Nest Doorbell (wired), previously known as Nest Hello or Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen)?
  • What is the exact model of your Google Nest Displays (Google Nest Hub (1st gen), Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) or Google Hub Max)?
  • What's the model and firmware version of your iPad?
  • Do other phones or tablets have access to your devices?
  • Is your Nest Doorbell in the same home in the Google Home app or Nest app as your Google Nest Displays?

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Whippet,

Thanks for your response and for providing this useful information!

Let's try a workaround together. Please follow the next steps:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap and hold your device's tile.
  • In the top right, tap Settings and then Doorbell.
  • Turn Visitor announcements off.
  • Close the app and wait for around 30 seconds.
  • Open the Google Home app and turn Visitor announcements on.

This will refresh the settings and may fix this situation. Please keep posted of the results.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Nery.
