In the google home app (not the nest app) I am not able to set up activity zone notifications.

I have gone through all the navigation paths in the app and the area at the bottom of the zone set up (where it appears notifications can be set up) is not an active link (i.e. when I select it nothing happens). Anyone figure this out?

I'm having the same issue, how can I turn on notifications?

Hi John,  If  you are trying to setup zones then you do that by going into the GOOGLE HOME app and selecting the camera you want the zones for.  Then select the GEAR icon.  Then select EVENTS.  You should then see the option to add zones.   Once you have defined the zones you go back to the GEAR and select NOTIFICATIONS.  From there you can see all your zones and setup the notifications for each zone.

That doesn't work, there's no way to set alerts for the zone, they are always off with no way to toggle.

So are you able to actually setup zones?   Or is that grayed out as well?

If believe you can only setup zones if you have the NEST AWARE subscription activated.  If you have one of the new battery cameras then you have a 30 day trial but you may have to actually active it.  I'm not sure because I already had Nest Aware for my older cams.

I could set up a zone no problem but the zones are useless without event settings. I'll try to activate Nest Aware and see if that works

So were you actually able to define a zone?  Can you send a screenshot?

Same issue. I get to here, create a zone, but when I click “your notifications in this zone” it goes nowhere.

I am having the same issue. Any other suggestions?  Super frustrating.

Same here. I can create a zone. In the NEST application I see no option under notifications to select a zone. Same with the Home application. There is no "events" page when selecting the gear icon in the camera view.

Also, when selecting "push notifications" and "always" radio buttons, the selections don't stick. The next time I go back into the NEST application, the notifications are unselected.

I have the same issue, can configure the zones but not the notifications. Spent 2.5hrs chatting to support and got nowhere.

I have the same issue. This is my first time buying a security camera and I clearly made the wrong choice. From what I have gathered from reading all over the internet, the battery-operated cameras are not allowed the same features as other Nest cams. Anyone who buys a Neat product expects the Nest features as commonly advertised. What a joke.

I am having the same issue.  The hub that I have works great, but that is through the Nest ap.  The google ap will not notify at all and that is the only option I had to set up my new wired Nest camera, it told me I could not set up through Nest.

I am having the exact same issue as the one mentioned above. With or without Nest Aware, I am unable to add notifications to the zone that I have created. 'Your notifications in this zone' and 'Choose which events you want to be notified about in this zone' are shown, but it does not show any of the possibilities to activate notifications.

 

EDIT: It worked when activating video history, but this is only possible with Nest Aware?

Hey SammyG,

 

I am more than happy to help out. Activity Zones is a feature on Nest Cam (battery), Nest Doorbell (battery), and Nest Cam (wired). For all other cameras, Activity Zones is available if you have a trial or paid Nest Aware subscription. I did find a helpful article with more details on using activity zones. Please let me know if that helps answer your question, or if you have any other questions from here.
