Indoor chime stopped working

My wired doorbell (I believe it's first generation, but this was not an option in the dropdown above) was setup by contractors and everything worked fine for several years. Recently, the doorbell completely stopped work (no video feed and doorbell not ringing). I tried restarting it and that didn't work. I ultimately completely removed it from the network and re-added it.

When going through the steps to add it, I was confused by all the questions about the chime box adapter, because I never did any of that, but I assumed the contractors had. I skipped through everything and got the doorbell re-added. I'm getting video and the network is being notified of rings again as expected.

Unfortunately, the indoor chime isn't sounding at all and, when I investigated it, I discovered there is no chime box adapter installed. I have seen from other posts that running this way might work, but could damage your chime box. Am I correct in assuming that the problem is likely that the doorbell fried my chime box? If so, is the solution here to replace the chime box, get a chime box adapter, and install them both correctly?

Below are photos of the (1st gen) Google Nest Hello Doorbell (it has a black face) and the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell (larger, in several colors).

This post has a wiring diagram for the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell:

This post has diagrams for the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell:

I don't know if your indoor doorbell chime has been damaged. In the post below, Google Nest says "The chime connector allows the chime’s wires to deliver constant power to the Nest Doorbell (wired) and protects your chime from damage."

If you are missing a chime connector (aka "chime puck"), you could try contacting Support, using the link and instructions in this post:
