New Nest Doorbell keeps sending noise alerts even though noise notifications is deselected.

Hi. Our 2nd Gen Nest Doorbell which we bought only 6 months ago, has never worked properly. We have the Nest Aware subscription.

The main issue is that it keeps sending noise notifications even though we have noise notifications turned off in the App settings. We have easily 70-100 notifications a day in the incident feed.

Other issues with this Nest Doorbell include;

Google Home can be used for viewing incidents, but we need to use the Nest App for changing any settings.

Camera picture isn't great quality, especially nighttime footage.

It is very slow to alert.

It takes about 5-10 seconds for the live video to open up and display. (previous camera was far quicker and in exact same spot, so it isn't a wifi issue.)

It regularly disconnects from Wifi. Approx 20 times a day or more.

Does anyone else have these issues? Should I just claim a repair or replacement from Google? It's only 6-7 months old and has never delivered the expected performance since new.

@KevinM1

I'm just another Google Nest customer, but what do you mean by "noise notifications"?

What doorbell do you actually have? The 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell simply cannot be accessed from the Google Nest app. Attached below are photos of the 1st and 2nd gen doorbells.

If you actually have the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell and have turned off sound notifications, you may still get "Sound" events in your event video history, depending on how you are "filtering" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9208447).

If you want to contact Support, you can use the link and instructions in this post:

Hi, you're correct actually. On this house, it is the 1st Gen bought new 7 months ago.

It was a 2nd gen that I was looking for and accidentally ordered 1st Gen on Amazon.

The sound notifications are in the events history, about 70 times in a day even though I have notifications for noise set to off.  In the Notifications, Activity, Sound, I have sound/noise set to off, but the events still show in history.

I'll contact support on the sluggishness and disconnection issues

Oh, the other issue is that I receive an alert on my phone only maybe 50% of the time when someone rings the doorbell.

@KevinM1

You could see what Support says. Getting doorbell notifications only half the time, delays in opening live video, and disconnecting from Wi-Fi could also be due to Wi-Fi issues.

Hi folks,

@KevinM1, thanks for posting in the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the Nest doorbell. I’d like to check in and see if you still need help with this. Were you able to contact our support team as suggested by MplsCustomer above? If yes, how was it?

If you haven’t done so already, please try the troubleshooting steps below for the camera notifications and let me know how it goes.

  1. Open your Android phone’s Settings > General > Date and Time. Tap Set Automatically, toggle it off, and then turn it back on. Make sure that the time zone, date, and time are correct.
  2. Go back to Settings and then Apps and then Nest and then Permissions. Set Location to Allow all the time.
  3. Visit the Play Store and check if there are any available updates for the Nest app.
  4. Check for any Android system updates and install them if there are any.
  5. Turn off notifications for the Nest device.
  6. Uninstall the Nest app, restart your phone, and then reinstall the Nest app.
  7. Turn notifications back on for each Nest device.

Also, you can check out this guide to help you fix Nest camera or doorbell Wi-Fi connection issues.

Keep me posted.

I appreciate your help, MplsCustomer.

All the best,

Lance
