Hi,
I’ve just moved into a house where the previous owner left a google doorbell (battery). We know the owner, and he is insistent that it worked right up until the point at which we moved in.
I’ve plugged it into a usb-c power supply and the light on the front goes solid white. When I press the doorbell while it’s on charge it lets me know the battery is fully charged.
In this state it will not pair with the google home app, as the light does not pulse blue as the app indicates it should.
I’ve tried resetting it using a pin in the hole on the back, but no matter how long I hold it in, no lights appear on the front.
Any ideas how to overcome this?
Thanks

Hi Jayman1987,
Thanks for reaching out. Let’s get this sorted — a few questions: what’s your internet speed (download and upload speed)? How far is your doorbell from the router? Is it connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network? Were there any changes to your Wi-Fi network? Are there other devices connected to the same Wi-Fi where the camera is connected to? Also, are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the camera?
Going over the steps here might help:
- Check your internet speed here: https://goo.gle/2JaUmYI. The page would show your download speed then click “Show more info” to check your upload speed.
- Restart your doorbell:
- Locate the reset pinhole at the back of the doorbell.
Tip: The reset pin on the Nest Doorbell (battery) is located below the USB port at the back of the doorbell. - Press and hold for 5 seconds.
- Your doorbell will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.
- Locate the reset pinhole at the back of the doorbell.
- Restart your modem or router, unplug it from the power outlet, wait for 1 to 2 minutes. Then, plug it back in.
- If you have a dual band Wi-Fi frequency, ensure to pair it to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi frequency to get a stable connection.
If all else fails, factory reset your doorbell. Please read the instructions carefully to factory reset your doorbell.
Best,
Jenelyn

Hi Jenelyn,
I appreciate your detailed response. I've tried to follow them, and the factory reset instructions. The issue being that the reset button in the pin hole on the back does not seem to work. It doesn't matter how long or short I hold it in for (I can feel the internal button being pressed), it does nothing. It doesn't restart, reset, or even react to being pressed.
Any ideas?
Kind regards,
Mark

Hi everyone,
@Jayman1987, thanks for your update. Kindly, inform the previous owner to delete the Nest Doorbell from her Google Home app to make sure it's not linked to any account. Also, try the reset while charging it. You may follow the steps from the link shared above.
Let us know how it goes.
I appreciate the help, Jenelyn.
Regards,
Emerson

Hi EmersonB,
I've contacted the previous owner, who assures me the doorbell has been deleted/deregistered from their app.
When plugged in, once the 'charging' noise sounds, I can briefly press the main button to make the bell chime. But then it will just revert to a constant white light, and if the button is pressed, it will audibly tell me the level of charge in the doorbell.
Pressing the reset button whilst plugged in or not makes no difference whatsoever.
I really don't want to have to go and buy another doorbell, but my options seem to be running out...
