Dear users
just installed the nest outdoor battery camera. I thought it would only send notifications (be live) when there was movements, but it’s sending live - is it possible to have it starting when there is movements or unexpected people arriving ?
thanks for your help 😀

I'm not sure what you're saying.
We have a battery camera, plugged in with the optional power cable, so ours is "Live" all the time, and since we have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, it's recording 24/7.
If your battery camera is NOT plugged in and is running on battery power, it is normally in "Idle" mode and should wake up and start recording when it detects an event (though many customers seem to report this doesn't work very well). If you select your camera in the Google Home app or on the home.google.com or on your Nest Hub, I think this wakes up your camera and it then starts to livestream as long as you're viewing the camera (though when in battery mode, I think this may shut off at some time).

Thanks for your reply, our camera is not plugged in (yet) so you think if I turn on the camera in the Google Home app and afterwards close the app it will automatically go to “sleep” and only record when movements (setting set to pleople) ?

Google Nest does not specifically document this, but yes, that's the impression I have from other customer posts in this forum who have cameras on battery power.
If you buy an optional power cable and plug your camera in, you'll probably have to remove your camera from the Google Home app, do a factory reset, and then reinstall it. Other customers in this forum report having to do that, since the camera does not recognize that it is plugged in and using household current unless it is plugged in during the install process.

Thanks, I will order an outdoor cable. Do you know if the Nest Hub can send notifications from the camera or it’s only via the phone ? You seam to have a solid experience with the Nest 😉

The only camera notifications that can be sent to Nest Hubs are “Visitor announcements” when a doorbell button is pressed.

Hi folks,
@Lars2512, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. How's it going? Were you able to purchase the cable? What has been shared above about visitors announcements is right on the spot. Nest Hub can announce when someone rings your Nest Doorbell. Let us know if you have
I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.
