Is there a way to set up a back up connection for security cameras and doorbells?

Is there a way to set up a back up connection for security cameras and doorbells?

  • So for example, if the cameras are set to connect to Wi-Fi by default. But in case of a power outage or WiFi outage during the night. Can it be programmed to check for a hotspot connection as back up so that it can still alert to phones or tablets when motion is detected?

Hi @Coko,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I understand you're wondering if your cameras and doorbells will still work if your Wi-Fi disconnects, that's a really great question! Let me help you with that.

Currently, our cameras don't have the option to automatically connect to another available Wi-Fi network if the main one goes down. However, here's what we do offer:

  • For wired devices, they can actually keep recording for about an hour.
  • If you have battery-powered devices, they'll continue recording until the battery runs out.

We've got some more in-depth info about how Nest cameras store recorded video over in our help center. Just click on this highlighted text: "How Nest cameras store recorded video" to learn more!

Let me know if this answers your questions!

Best regards,

Debora
