My nest doorbell just arrived and was trying to connect it to my Google home account but I constantly get the error of “We're having trouble connecting to the assisting device”. What would cause this problem? I have a nest camera in my backyard connected to my google home without any issues!

This is an often-reported issue with numerous customer-suggested solutions that have varying results, but no definitive answer from Google. Some customers have posted that they think the problem is due to outdated software on some of the cameras shipped by Google. Search this forum for "assisting device" and "assisting nest device" (in quotes) to see some of the other posts about this problem and the solutions suggested by other customers. I'm just another Google Nest customer and don't have an answer for this. If you google for "Google Nest Help" to get Google's help, and do the same searches there, you get many more results, all of them pointing to posts on this community forum.

If you're still struggling with this, two customers ("Edgars" and"Father_Thyme") in this post were able to get past the "assisting device" problem by setting their phone to airplane mode with WiFi and Bluetooth turned on. I have no idea why, but they say it worked:
