Live Feed Unavailable / Couldn't Load Video - after changing WIFI

This is a quick post for anyone else with this issue:

  • You have moved your Google Nest Camera to a new Wifi SSID, via a remove device/add again.
  • The camera sets up just fine.
  • The camera is recognising people and sending event alerts.
  • You can view the video from events.
  • The camera is wired/powered, showing a green light and within Wifi range.
  • You can view the camera settings via the app.
  • You can even see the camera view on the 'add zones' feature.
  • BUT You can't Live Stream, the IOS app shows the error 'Live video unavailable. The camera may be unreachable or saving battery.' The web version of home, shows the error 'Couldn't load video'.

I had to move 3 cameras to a new SSID and all 3 did the same thing, I tried hard resets, multiple reinstalls, I inspected the IP traffic, couldn't find the problem anywhere... so I gave up and went to bed.

Woke up the next morning and the cameras were all live streaming again!

All I can put this down to is that there is something (perhaps a NAT/FW session) either on my network or Googles that needed to time out and reset.

So if you are currently highly frustrated and experiencing the same issue, with the same symptoms I describe above, chill out, grab a beer... and relax 🙂

Hi Benjycov,

Thanks for taking the time to share your detailed troubleshooting steps you took to get your Nest camera live view again, including the multiple reinstalls, hard resets, and IP traffic inspection. Your detailed description of the "Live Stream Unavailable/Video Failed to Load" errors on both the iOS app and the web version after changing the SSID is helpful. This kind of experience is exactly what helps others in the community!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to post them in this forum.

Best regards,
Juan
