Migrated cameras and other Nest integration problems

ericta

This thread topic was stopped prematurely due to people getting tired of waiting for a solution: "Migrated Nest cams missing History in Google Home" - It was from over a year ago.

I seem to be in a Nest-Google hell after spending many dollars over the years on these devices: 6 cameras, a thermostat, 4 nest protect devices, etc, etc. Keep in mind the money I have spent is 100% after Nest was acquired by Google. I was forced to replace my old dropcams recently with free cameras from Google and that was the last pure Nest product. Thank you for the replacements. That forced the issue to use the Google Home app for the new replacement cameras. That leaves me running these products in two separate apps. I did make the switch to Google subscription over a year ago, so I am doing my part to do what Google would like us to do for adoption. I would like to know the following:

1) When can I have my camera history for my expensive Nest Cam IQ Outdoor cameras (purchased in 2021) in Google Home. How long will I have to use two Apps for the different cameras?

2) When can I add the Nest Protect products to Google Home? Is this planned? You are still selling these products today.

3) When will the browser interface work for all these products along with history review (home.google.com)? There are use cases in reviewing footage over a period of time where you really need the larger display to see the detail.

4) When can I see the cameras on AppleTV? (Guessing never on this one)

The acquisition of Nest was almost a decade ago and the integration is still broken. In 2014 Google CEO Larry Page praised Nest’s current products and its founders’ talents in a statement and said that Google was “excited to bring great experiences to more homes in more countries and fulfill their dreams.” Has that happened? When will all this be fixed? As an IT professional, this might be the worst example of a post acquisition integration I have seen...

Hi Erica,  If you read thru this forum you will see literally 100's of users asking the exact same questions.  And we have been waiting well over a year (closer to 2 years actually) for these features.   Hopefully google will improve this soon.  But they refuse to answer the 'when' part of the question.

Thank you. My intent is to keep a thread going and not allow it to be closed until resolved. I am going to start posting buyer be aware threads on Amazon as well... Appreciate communities like this when the vendor is falling short.

Hi folks,

ericta, I’m sorry for the delayed response. For 1st gen Nest cameras and doorbell the video history can only be viewed in the Nest app. We don’t have any news to share when it’s going to be available in the Google Home app, but you can file your feedback here. Nest Protects can only be added in the Nest app. Once you migrate your account, you’ll no longer be able to use the Nest app on Apple TV or on Android TV. To learn more, take a look at this guide: FAQs about accounts for the Nest app.

gladiator111, just to confirm, when signing into your Nest app, are you choosing the Sign in with Google or the Sign in with Nest option?

I appreciate your help, EmplyNester!

Thanks,

JT

I do not have 1st generation products anymore - all my products are available for purchase now!!! That is crazy, right? I did move to google authentication a year ago. Thank you for restating the problem. Why is there no roadmap? Again - Google purchased Nest almost a decade ago.

They have migrated nest to Google accounts and I can't even get my nest cam to work... sends me in a loop looking for my email accounts ... states that the email or password is wrong. i change the password, and it STILL gives wrong password.

I think we are in Loop hell...

NO SUPPORT VISIBLE. I will abandon Google products for something more reliable and less changing constantly!

if anyone out there has the answer to this enigma, please write. otherwise i will have to tackle something less complicated, like time travel!

I seem to remember something like this happening to me about 2 years ago.  I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Google's 2-factor authentication for that particular email account.    I believe your best path to solve this is to speak on the phone with a Google Tech person.  Here is the link to open a support ticket and after you answer the questions where will be an option to escalate to a phone call.  I'm pretty sure they are available to speak with 24/7.

If this works please return here and let us know how it went.
