Hello Google. I've been using my Nest app for close to a decade. I have seven total nest cams running, and I just purchased a new Google nest cam to add to my Nest network, which would bring me to eight cameras. I've/ never had an issue installing a camera before but this one is difficult because though the instructions ask for it, there is no QR code on the back of the camera, and there is no six digit number on the back or the bottom of the camera either. I bought the camera maybe three weeks ago and I still have the box and I scanned the QR code on the box, but that QR code was rejected. I can see my new camera on my Google home app, but I need to add it to my Nest app. I hope I'm making sense. Bottom line: I just want to add my new Google nest cam to my Nest app, not my Google Home app. Could someone please help me or point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance!

The newer 2nd gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in Sept. 2021 only get installed in the Google Home app and not in the Google Nest app. We discovered this when we bought a 2nd gen battery camera in Sept. 2021, and have been using 2 apps ever since.
The QR code for the 2nd gen battery camera and the 2nd gen indoor camera is on a sticker on the front of the camera; the install instructions suggest saving that sticker with your Quick Start Guide. The 6-character setup code for the battery camera is on the bottom of the camera, and under the base on the indoor camera. You must have used one or the other to install your camera in the Google Home app.

Thank you so much for the clarity. You saved me a ton of time trying to fix something that can’t be fixed. (Maybe “fix” is the wrong word and “figured out“ is what I mean.) Again, think you kind stranger!

Many people learned this the same way you did. Some people just live with the newer Gen 2 cams only working in the Google Home app. and others (like me) returned then gen 2 cam and purchased a used Gen 1 cam on Ebay.
Note: Google has come a long way with the Google Home app and you can now transfer the older Gen 1 cameras to the Google home app with the acceptation of the IQ cameras. However not all the features we enjoy in the Nest app appear in the Google Home app.

Dear fellow empty nester… I so appreciate your help on this. Now, instead of spending what could wind up being hours trying to change things that can’t be changed, I am headed to eBay thanks to your advice. Thank you!
